Of the crazy of course!

We'll get to that in a minute. As we frantically prepare for our trip to DC I wanted to catch up on a little housekeeping. This will most likely be our last posting at this locale. Our spiffy new blog is ready to go and we offer humble thanks to the techie guy who saved our bacon, that would be our good blogpal High Desert Wanderer. Should you ever need any blog stuff done make him your go to guy!

As this trip, and our desire to be on the new blog overwhelmed us, we waited until the last possible second and then hollered "help!" :P

And he did, so thanks HDW!

As we get ready to leave we ask you keep us in your prayers, one never knows what god has in store, except that he has a wicked sense of humor!

Earlier today MJ and I were both so struck by a story that we each ended up posting on it here and here. The short version is that a student at a Maine school tossed a ham steak onto a table populated by Somali muslims, who immediately turned into shreiking ninnies and ultimately the police were called and are currently investigating a pork based "hate crime."

One student has been suspended and more disciplinary action could follow a possible hate crime at Lewiston Middle School, Superintendent Leon Levesque said Wednesday.

On April 11, a white student placed a ham steak in a bag on a lunch table where Somali students were eating. Muslims consider pork unclean and offensive.

The act reminded students of a man who threw a pig’s head into a Lewiston mosque last summer.

The school incident is being treated seriously as “a hate incident,” Levesque said. Lewiston police are investigating, and the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence is working with the school to create a response plan.

“We’ve got some work to do to turn this around and bring the school community back together again,” Levesque said.

Placing ham where Muslim students were eating was “an awful thing,” said Stephen Wessler, executive director of the Center for Prevention of Hate Violence. “It’s extraordinarily hurtful and degrading” to Muslims, whose religion prohibits them from being around ham. It’s important to respond swiftly, Wessler said.

“Incidents like this that involve degrading language or conduct are often said by the perpetrator as a joke. I know that conduct is never static,” he said. “It’s part of a process of escalation.”

Yes, I understand that delicious baby back ribs are next on the agenda, shudder, the humanity people, the humanity!

How exactly does a civilization survive when shrieking ninnies like Mr. Wessler aren't immediately taken behind a building and introduced repeatedly to Mr. Fist? How does a civilization survive when you have individuals who actually think the throwing of a ham steak, by children, is the beginning of a pogram?

I'm sorry to have to use Hitler Kitty twice in one day, but Mrs. Wessler leaves me no choice...

The Rally to Demand Secure Borders and Enforcement of Our Immigration Law sponsored by the Dustin Inman Society will start at 3:30 at Lafayette Park, which is between H St. and Pennsylvania Ave., just north of the White House.

If you are planning on joining us in Washington DC for this event, our website registration is closed. At this time, if you are planning on lobbying Congress Mon-Wed, please visit the registration table at the Phoenix Park Hotel to sign up starting Sunday, at 10:00 AM. Also, if you plan on attending the benefit reception for Border Agents Ramos and Compean we have closed on-line registration. There are still spots available at the reception, and you can pay in advance by visiting our registration/information table at the Phoenix Park Hotel.

Transportation

We recommend using the subway here as the best method for getting in and out of the District - public garages in downtown D.C. will typically charge $20 or more per day. Visit the PMI Parking Site for DC to locate a garage. Not all garages are open on a Sunday. One PMI facility that is open is the one at 1325 G. St. 202-785-9191. FAIR is not officially recommending one parking facility for rally participants, however the G. St. location is relatively close to the White House.

Today we have the pleasure of adding to this list a new term making the rounds in Washington. Mark Krikorian reports...

Congress Daily reports today that "A core group of senators that has been meeting almost daily for the last several weeks is close to announcing the outlines of a comprehensive immigration bill that could be the basis for Senate debate in late May." A part of the possible deal would be "a 'trigger' mechanism that would delay implementation of a guestworker program until enforcement mechanisms are in place." There's been talk of this phony "trigger" idea for a while now, but until I spoke with some congressional staffers last night I didn't realize how phony it really is. The idea is that there would be certain enforcement benchmarks that would have to be met before a guestworker/amnesty program kicked in. It sounds plausible enough, but it isn't.

The first problem is one that Mickey Kaus has written about — that having a promise of amnesty in a bill, regardless of conditions, just serves as a magnet for illegals to enter (or stay) and keep their heads down until the amnesty kicks in. But even worse is what the staffers explained to me: any deal including a trigger would actually give illegal aliens legal status (amnesty) immediately, while enforcement efforts were improved — so all that would be "triggered" is the illegals' opportunity to get a green card, not their ability to keep living and working here under some other status, which would continue indefinitely if the trigger conditions were not met.

So, if you will allow me to work the tote board?

Trigger = Amnesty!

Another arrested in prostitution case

Federal authorities have arrested another person in connection with the forced prostitution of a 14-year-old Mexican girl and have indicted three others.

Rafael Hernandez-Gonzalez was indicted Wednesday, court documents said. He is charged with eluding examination and inspection by immigration officials.

Jesus Perez-Laguna, Guadalupe Reyes-Rivera and Ciro Bustos-Rosales were indicted Wednesday on six counts that include immigration and prostitution offenses.

Reyes-Rivera is a fugitive. Anyone with information about her should call the FBI at (803) 551-4200 or Immigration and Customs Enforcement at (803) 765-5430.

Can you feel it? How these scumbags strengthen the very fabric of America? I think we can all agree that prostituting a fourteen year old girl certainly qualifies as 'plucky!' I thank god daily that our president has stuck to his guns and made certain that the necessary conditions required for this underage girl to be bought and sold remained unchanged!

Thank you Mr. President! Thank you for keeping America safe for those who would import underage sex slaves! Thank you sir!

US cops grab 9 illegal workers at military base

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - U.S. police arrested nine illegal immigrants working for a contractor at a California military base on Thursday, in an operation underscoring a threat to national security from fake identity documents, authorities said. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in San Diego said the employees worked for a contractor at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, and had used fake permanent residency cards obtained on a thriving black market in the city to gain work.

And how many of our "cheerful invaders" have been pinched working at military bases?

The operation was the latest in an ongoing sweep by ICE that has discovered more than 850 undocumented workers using fake identity cards to work at sensitive military bases and airports in San Diego County.

As I've said before, you can talk to me about the war on terrah when we pretend to give a rat's ass about security here. Until then what we have is a group of folks running around cutting off heads and what not, and our gub'mint with its thumb up its ass!

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller has confirmed in testimony “that there are individuals from countries with known al-Qa’ida connections who are changing their Islamic surnames to Hispanic-sounding names and obtaining false Hispanic identities, learning to speak Spanish and pretending to be Hispanic immigrants.115

Four arrested at Minutemen co-founder's speech

EAST LANSING -- Just before Minutemen co-founder Chris Simcox began his speech this evening at MSU, more than 100 protesters were gathered in front of Conrad Hall under a banner that read, "No human being is illegal." Later, about 7:45 p.m., four protesters were arrested when they refused to let the speech go forward. Student activist Jose Villagran said the group had come to "visibly protest someone who promotes terrorism against our people." "Human life is more important than racist laws," Villagran said in a speech to the protesters. The Minutemen are an anti-illegal immigration group and serve as self-appointed guardians of the border with Mexico.

"Our people?" Why, whatever could he mean? Presumably he's an American, right?

I understand why the the student turned into a gunman. I knew that something like this was going to happen, and this may be the beginning, unless Americans become more respectful to non-white people (both verbal and nonverbal). Racism is constant, mostly nonverbal. I came from a similar background, although not exactly the same. During the junior high school, I was one of the few Asians at the school. Many students are racists and people called me many names. I also spoke constantly about killing people. I started lifting weights, and at the end of that year, I was the strongest in my school. I played with lots of bb guns and paintball guns. I started playing various sports (fball, wrestling, etc). My parents were also poor. Many immigrants either join gangs or some people play sports to release their anger. Fortunately, I was able to overcome the environmental factors, became very popular in high school, and overcame the adversity. It is a special challenge for immigrants and non-caucasians in America. I have an incredibly strong will power and through the help of God, I overcame adversities and constant racism. Now, I am very successful. Many people will not overcome racial adversities and this shooting could just be the beginning… My advice to all Americans:
1. Be respectful to all people (both verbal and nonverbal), all the time.
2. I don’t understand the gunlaw(biggest problem)
3. American media is full of junk (violence(WWF), sex(OC), drugs, and violent music. Get rid of them, now.
4. Understand that many people from other countries that have poor english accents are better educated than many americans here, with masters and PhDs. Be respectful to people in all places, but most Americans will never know what it feels like to be non-white, because white people are nice to white people.
5. The gunman had personal problems, but it is the media, and the americans that influenced the gunman. Again, the gunlaw is also incomprehensible.

What the hell, let's just state the obvious here. Kids will always be dicks to kids who are different. The only way to change that would be to eliminate children. Does our deluded commenter here really think a white child would fare much differently in a non-white society?

You know, MJ and I used to go to Chinatown here in Chicago, we were treated poorly because we were white. Should we go down there and threaten them with violence for treating us poorly and with suspicion? Or is it okay because MJ and I are white?

Because to state the obvious corollary to his statement that "most Americans will never know what it feels like to be non-white, because white people are nice to white people," would be that of course "brown people are nice to brown people." Duh!

Just take minute and really absorb what he's saying. We need to change things in America to make it more comfortable for immigrants. Ummm, no, last time I checked it was immigrants that needed to bend. If you really don't like the culture you sire are the luckiest of men.

Because you can get the hell out!

Respect us or we'll start shooting! Sounds like the perfect "multi-cultural" slogan, no?

A hate crime? Doesn't there have to be an underlying crime before we can leap to "hate crime" status?

Well, thank God the CPHV is on the case whipping up a "response plan." Although, judging by their name, they are there to prevent VIOLENCE, and the last time I checked, having "placed a ham steak...on a lunch table" doesn't qualify.

But let's not forget the fact that the student with the porkalicious gift was white. The reporter made sure to include that little tidbit.

Why does that matter, I ask? If the act was perpetrated to offend someone based on their religion, why on earth do we need to know the race of the kid who did it?

According to one of the students at the lunch table...

He began to think white students didn't like him, and the act was their way of letting him know.

Well, that's apples and oranges, isn't it folks? Apples and oranges.

Illegal alien scumbag who after repeated violations of the law and a deportation hold killed Kent Boone, a father of five. Now the family is looking for answers and there hard to come by as weak, foolish politicians who allowed Senor Soto free reign to ramp up to this crime hide under their desks, knees knocking...

A convicted felon and drunk driver in Solano County was supposed to be deported in 2005. Two years later, that illegal immigrant faces murder charges, and the victim’s family can’t get answers.

“Nobody wants to accept responsibility. None. There’s questions that can be answered and nobody wants to answer it,” said April Godin outside a Fairfield courtroom Wednesday, minutes after Isidro Pena Soto, 26, pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder, felony drunk driving and possession of methamphetamine.

Pena Soto is charged with killing Kent Boone, 33, in a head-on crash on Highway 12 between Rio Vista and Fairfield March 31. The CHP said he has four prior DUI convictions, is an illegal immigrant, and had two pounds of methamphetamine in his SUV. Investigators estimate Pena Soto was traveling 90 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

A News10 investigation showed in April 2005, Pena Soto pleaded no contest to felony drug possession and misdemeanor DUI. He was only sentenced to 122 days in Solano County jail. As an illegal immigrant with a felony conviction, court documents show he had an immigration hold, meaning he faced deportation after serving his sentence.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, however, told News10 they have no record of being contacted about Pena Soto in 2005 or any other time prior to his latest arrest.

Godin is the mother of two of Boone’s children from an earlier relationship. She attended Pena Soto’s arraignment with Boone’s current wife, Regina Sorioso, and other family members, including Sorioso’s two children. Many of them had heart-shaped lockets around their necks, which Sorioso said contained a pinch of Boone’s ashes……

We conquered and massacred natives indians in this country because of "laws on the books". There are genocides all over the world because of "laws on the books".

I hear that illegal immigrants are criminals because they broke the law. How many of you break the law every day driving on freeways over the speed limit. Are you criminals because you break the law? Of course not.

Laws can be bad or unrealistic. Making criminals out of people that came here for a better life and are hard working individuals is not fair. It is just a screwed up law!

Besides, deporting million of people is a crime, and it is GENOCIDE, even if they don't kill a single person. As per the new Genocide Law, massive deportations are also a crime, just take a look at Dandurf and Kosovo..1.5 million people deported, and the U.N. had to stop it. Just imagine the USA deporting 20 million..is a horrendous crime.!!

And thanks to the State of Arkansas, they did not approve the Immigration law, similar to the Oklahoma law. Oklahoma is the only retarded state in the region!! Good luck!!

I couldnt agree more with adrock. I also lived in southern california when latinos were much fewer in numbers, and everyone defended their presence and hard work, but now that they are the majority there, things are much different. They arent the quiet, mind their own business folk who are just hoping to make it here in America (illegally), they are now banding together (remember May 1 2006?) and demanding things they are in no way owed! They now are arrogant in public and will openly argue with you that this (USA) is Mexico!! They have effectively ruined a once prestigious California school system by requiring so many resources go to ESL programs and performing poorly on exams. All this, on top of vicious gangs, smuggling rings, and an extremely anti American attitude, its a wonder more states arent jumping to take the same action as Oklahoma! If youre too ignorant to listen to people like me, who have experienced this, then you have no one to blame but yourself when America is destroyed. Hooray for Oklahoma making a very wise decision.

When you have eyewitnesses why not believe them? You should read through them all, like I said, interesting and instructive, a true snapshot of the current debate, of course only one side is interested in debating, while the other is quite fond of calling names.

Presidential candidate and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) said Monday the reason he has not called for the removal of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is that the two both have Hispanic backgrounds.

Richardson, in an interview with The Hill, said he is "pretty close" to making such a call, but added that he is reluctant to do so before Gonzales's Senate testimony despite the high-profile involvement of New Mexico in the U.S. attorneys scandal.

[Richardson says] "The only reason I'm not there is because he's Hispanic, and I know him and like him... It's because he's Hispanic. I'm honest... I want to give him the benefit of the doubt."

Let's play a little game. Imagine if I was a politician and a fellow politician who was white had gotten himself into trouble and I went on record saying: I'm honest, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because he's white.

How long would my head remain attached to my body? The double standard is truly mind blowing.

LEWISTON - One student has been suspended and more disciplinary action could follow a possible hate crime at Lewiston Middle School, Superintendent Leon Levesque said Wednesday.

On April 11, a white student placed a ham steak in a bag on a lunch table where Somali students were eating. Muslims consider pork unclean and offensive.

The act reminded students of a man who threw a pig’s head into a Lewiston mosque last summer.

The school incident is being treated seriously as “a hate incident,” Levesque said. Lewiston police are investigating, and the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence is working with the school to create a response plan.

Should students be punished for this? Of course! Should the freaking police be involved? Only if Islam is the state religion.

Oh, it is? never mind!

Debate on Virginia Tech Muslim Students' Association Mailing List Concerning Permissibility of Praying for Mercy for Non-Muslim Victims

The liberal Arabic-language website Aafaq reports that a Muslim student set off a debate when she sent an email to the mailing list of the Muslim Students' Association at Virginia Tech asking the students to pray that Allah have mercy on those killed and wounded in the shooting attack at the university.

According to Aafaq, the dean of student affairs at American International University, Abu Hamza Hijji, responded, writing that Allah the Most Merciful forbids praying for mercy for the non-Muslim dead, or even for the non-Muslim living, and that it is only permitted to pray that they be rightly guided. He added that what happened was a sad occurrence, but that does not give Muslims the right to transgress the laws of Allah the Most Merciful.

Aafaq reported that a student named Chris, a recent convert, did not agree, and wrote that he usually does not intervene in this kind of discussion, but that this time he had to say "no." He added that his German teacher, who was wounded in the shooting, is a good man, and that he was praying that he would not die. He said that he would pray for him and for his family, whether they are Muslims or not, and would pray for all those who suffered from this calamity. He expressed the view that religion must bring people together, and not drive them apart, and that the brotherhood of humanity takes precedence over brotherhood of religion or of state.

According to Aafaq, Hijji answered Chris, saying that there is no problem with praying that non-Muslims be kept safe and not be killed, if there is hope that they might be guided [to the right path] [DS: conversion to Islam]; but one cannot pray for the non-Muslim dead, since there is no chance of their being guided. He said that the Prophet Muhammad had told the Muslim soldiers at the battle of Badr to not kill some of the nonbelievers, even though they were on the battlefield, as they had treated Muhammad well when he was in Mecca.

Hijji wrote that the students should ask Allah to save Chris' teacher (i.e. the German teacher) from death and turn his heart to the truth. But he said at the same time that the Prophet did not pray for forgiveness for the non-Muslims, and in particular did not ask Allah to have mercy on them, even those whom the Prophet had wanted to be guided when they were alive. Once they died, the Prophet was not permitted to ask for mercy for them. Hijji added that the Prophet behaved this way on Allah's instructions.

Hijji wrote that the relative importance of brotherhood in humanity or religion needs to be evaluated according to Allah's laws, and not according to human reason. He added that he might seem to be a hard-hearted person, but that this is what people throughout the generations said about the prophets and messengers who came with God's message to guide others to the truth.

The only good news, and it's not a lot...

According to Aafaq, some students expressed their uneasiness with the discussion and asked to be taken off the mailing list, while others tried to justify the seemingly difficult matter.

Tom Tancredo: One Trick Pony?

I have been researching Tom Tancredo for awhile. He has gotten a reputation in the MSM as a one trick pony, that trick being illegal immigration. That is amazing to me that any reasonable person would honestly say he is a “one trick pony” since he has been in congress since 1998. You don’t get re-elected if you only have one trick, Just ask Bush the senior. I want to look at his stand on some major issues. We will start with his position on the major issues of today.

Illegal immigration: He has a clear vision of what he believes and this has been constant throughout his career. He believes in not rewarding lawbreakers and most importantly to me he believes in self deportation. Anyone who does not think that self deportation is a viable option needs to look more closely at reality. If you enforce the current laws against employers, sanctuary cities and social service agencies you remove any incentive for illegal aliens to stay. A vast majority would self deport and the rest could easily be rounded up and deported. The common myth that you can’t deport 12- 20 million people is just that a myth.

Legal Immigration: He supports a cap on legal immigration in the amount of 250,000 a year, Not the 1,000,000+ a year that legally immigrate here. Even unlimited legal immigration is harmful to this country. Even discounting the cultural damage and the damage to our infrastructure, he fact remains that our resources cannot support that many people.

Defense/ National Security: He has a common sense approach to the Iraq war. One that is neither a cut and run view nor a stay the course view. He advocates a strategy of a rapid response force to deal with Al Qaeda and other terrorist issues, While assisting the region to find it’s own balance of power. On the national security front the advocates secure borders. Overall a solid strategy, Iraq must decide what course they will travel.

Education: He supports parental control over the education of their children, not government control. He advocates school vouchers and school choice. A parent should be the one who decides on what is the best educational path for their child.

Social Security: He supports partial privatization of social security for younger workers. To me this makes sense, you relieve some of the pressure on the system while still honoring the governments obligations to older workers and retirees. This is a compromise that takes a flawed system and makes it workable. As those who need the system die you can gradually phase out the social security system as it exists. And replace it with a system that puts more responsibility for retirement in the hands of the individual.

Taxes: He supports either a flat tax or a national sales tax in place of the current federal income tax. I see pluses and minuses to both systems. I prefer the flat tax option with limited deductions. A national sales tax would be fine as long as it was weighted towards luxury goods and not basic necessities.

Abortion: He is strictly opposed to abortion. Me I am opposed to any abortion that is not based on a life threatening risk to the mother. I find it ironic that our government and society complain about the aging population and the low birth rate in this country, yet we allow the abortion of millions of babies.

These are just a few of the issues, if you take the time and do a little research you will find more on his positions. The key thing that attracts me to Tom Tancredo as a presidential candidate is he is a federalist. For those unclear what a federalist system is here is the Britannica definition.

Basically he believes in the states right to self govern with little federal intervention. Part of being a good citizen is to take an active role in deciding the direction of this country. As the old saying goes if you don’t vote, don’t complain. And if you do vote, do the research to make informed decisions.

Register of wills won’t give license for illegal immigrant to marry area woman.

Wilkes Barre -- The American Civil Liberties Union on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit against Luzerne County Register of Wills Dorothy Stankovic for refusing to accept a marriage application of an illegal immigrant who wishes to marry a legal resident of the United States.

The suit, filed on behalf of Heather Buck and Jose Guadelupe Arias-Maravilla of West Hazleton, says Stankovic’s policy requires applicants to prove they are legal residents before she will issue a marriage license. The ACLU maintains that policy is not based on any state statute and violates the U.S. and Pennsylvania constitutions.

The suit could potentially have statewide impact as other counties are believed to have similar policies, said lawyer Mary Catherine Roper of the ACLU in Philadelphia, the lead attorney in the case.

“This is a big deal,” Roper said in a phone interview Wednesday. “We’ve been talking to immigration attorneys all over the state and we understand the same thing is happening in practically every county you can name.”

According to the suit filed in federal court in Scranton, Arias-Maravilla, a citizen of Mexico, has admitted he is in the United States illegally and has agreed to be deported by May 12. He and Buck, who is a legal resident, have been living together since October 2005. They have a son, who was born in December. The couple were making arrangements for their marriage when Arias-Maravilla was taken into custody in January.

The suit says Arias-Maravilla was walking to a pay phone after his car broke down when he was approached by police. The officers asked for identification and he presented a Mexican driver’s license. He refused to answer when asked if he was in the country legally and was taken into custody and turned over to immigration officials.

Arias-Maravilla appeared before an immigration judge on March 6 and admitted he had entered the U.S. without permission. He agreed to voluntarily leave the country within 60 days.

The suit says Arias-Maravilla’s will still be deported even if he and Buck are married. The couple want to go through with the ceremony so that their son has the “legal, social, spiritual and psychological benefits of the lawful marriage of his parents.”

Pennsylvania law requires marriage license applicants to produce a birth certificate and provide information regarding their occupation, birthplace, residence and to certify they do not have a transmissible disease. It does not require proof of legal residency status, the suit says.

Buck and Arias-Maravilla say they went to Stankovic’s office on Tuesday. Arias-Maravilla presented a Mexican birth certificate as well as his passport and immigration papers, while Buck presented a birth certificate and photo identification. Deputy Register of Wills Don Williams refused to accept the application because there was no visa in Arias-Maravilla’s passport, which caused Williams to conclude Arias-Maravilla was “illegally in the country,” the suit says.

The suit further says Williams provided the couple a copy of Stankovic’s policy, which directs employees to refuse a marriage license to any foreign citizen who cannot prove legal residence in the United States and to report the applicants to immigration officials.

“The Register of Wills doesn’t get to make up rules. She is supposed to enforce the Pennsylvania marriage law. When you start making up rules that are not on the books, it infringes on people’s rights to be treated equally and you have a constitutional problem,” Roper said.

Stankovic, in a prepared statement, did not directly address the allegation the application was denied because of Arias-Maravilla’s residency status.

The statement says Stankovic’s office requires all applicants for a marriage license to present proof of identity for both applicants. Arias-Maravilla’s application was denied because he did not produce “satisfactory proof of identification,” Stankovic says in the release.

“This has been a long-standing policy of the Clerk of the Orphan’s Court,” Stankovic said. “It is my intention to adamantly oppose any move to have my office modify or change the current policy.”

The suit asks a federal judge to declare the policy void and to issue a preliminary injunction prohibiting Stankovic from enforcing it. It also seeks unspecified monetary damages for violations of the plaintiff’s rights, as well as court costs and attorney fees.

Illegal aliens are not "near beer" citizens, and we do them and ourselves no favors by pretending they are. Citizenship is one of the most important commodities in a republic, and actions like this can only serve to weaken the republic, not strengthen it. funny how the ACLU never appears to take the side of the country that spawned it, ain't it?

Jobs Americans Won't Do?

RALEIGH) - A man who stood with his back to the Eyewitness News camera because he is afraid to show his face or reveal his name, is originally from Mexico City and now a very successful building contractor who lives in the Triangle.

He is also an illegal immigrant filing a federal income tax return, and in 2006, he made more than $577,000.

Through an interpreter he said, “I’ve been long enough in the country, and I know I have to do the right thing. And I know paying taxes is the right thing.”

His wealth may be an exception, but the tax return filed by an illegal immigrant is not.

Across the Triangle and across the nation, undocumented workers are flooding a handful of income tax offices which cater to immigrants.

“Over the past three years, what I have seen is every year there is an increase,” said Blaire Borthayre, tax service consultant.

According to Borthayre more and more illegal immigrants are filing tax returns on the hope of gaining legal residency. Immigration bills now pending in congress would legalize undocumented workers if they can prove a history of tax payment.

Tax preparers say many immigrants are filing returns for multiple years, and they have cash for Uncle Sam.

“The most I’ve seen is $14K and that was in a suitcase this past year,” Borthayre said.

It all must sound puzzling to some but many immigrants are filing returns not with social security numbers but with tax payer ID numbers. The numbers are legally obtained and issued by the government.”

Tax preparers echo a policy of the IRS.

“We don’t care if you are legal or illegal, we just want your money,” Borthayre said. “We want you to pay your taxes.”

The anonymous building contractor among many others is willing to comply.

How many further laws did this individual break amassing that money? How many corners were cut in the building process and what recourse will those he served have if they have problems in the future? The list of questions is endless, and pointless.

This story makes my head want to pop off. When you allow rampant lawlessness you empower only the lawless. Decent hardworking folk trying to follow the rules are the ones hurt by this. Goddamn you Mr. President, goddamn you to hell!

Craig Nelson On South Korean Backlash...

There has been an incredible amount of chattering about "backlash" against South Koreans after the rampage at Virginia Tech, and as usual no backlash has emerged though the usual suspects never tire of reminding us, who don't tend to backlash, not to backlash, I think I have whiplash! (of course when the shoe was on the other foot, whaddaya know, there was a backlash!)

Anywho, Craig Nelson sent this email out today and it cracked my ass up, crappy little country indeed!

In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings by a South Korean immigrant, the South Korean immigrant community held a church service to pray there wouldn't be a racial backlash against all South Koreans in the United States, and even though there hadn't been a single incident reported anywhere of any such "anti-South Korean backlash" occurring, the South Korean government had the chutzpah to issue a statement warning against an anti-South Korean racial backlash.

I'm insulted, frankly, at the nerve of this crappy little country.

In 2002, when a U.S. military vehicle accidentally struck and killed two school girls walking on the shoulder of a highway in South Korea, it unleashed months of "racial backlash" against all things American. Americans were attacked. American businesses were attacked. American military installations were attacked. The tightly controlled South Korean press failed to report the American military's apology, it failed to report the handsome monetary gift to the girls' families (paying off a victim's family is a disgusting and widespread Asian tradition), and massive riots were stoked by the Korean government. Never mind that our military, at great expense to the American people, are there to protect that crappy little country from the Korean whack job to the north in the first place.

Oh, did I mention that the deaths of the two schoolgirls was an accident? That the soldiers of the unit involved built a memorial to the two girls and held a candlelight vigil for them?

Compare that to the methodical murder, the intentional murder of 32 Americans by the South Korean killer at Virginia Tech. Did the South Korean community apologize to the families of the victims? Did the South Korean government express its sense of grief at the heartache one of their own had unleashed? No, not a word to that effect. And despite not a single whiff of any anti-South Korean sentiment anywhere, press coverage that took pains to describe the killer as "coming from our area (his immigrant family lived in northern Virginia)", the despicable South Koreans dared warn us against any backlash! It almost makes one want to do a little backlashing.

Here's a proposal. All Americans in South Korea, get out. Come home where you belong.

All Koreans in America, get out and go back to Korea, the crappy little country where you belong. Then you can all engage in all the anti-American demonstrations you please and no one will notice, because no one will care what goes on in your crappy little country. In fact, you can demonstrate right up to the point when WhackJob Ill-in-the-Head Joong takes over and throws you all into NK uniforms and shows you what anti-American demonstrations are supposed to look like.

If we'd thrown all you corrupt ingrates out a year ago, 32 of us would be alive today.

New York To Open Madrassas!

Education seems to be a theme today...

Homeland Security: New York City plans to give Brooklyn Arabs and Muslims their own public school where they can speak Arabic. The idea is to promote cultural harmony. But it's Pollyannaish, and potentially dangerous.

With this culture, tolerance is not mutual. Putting aside the issue of American taxpayers supporting a school dedicated to the study of a foreign culture hostile to our own, the move raises serious security questions.

Will the school, located not far from Ground Zero, condone or encourage jihad? Will it act like a madrassa? How will authorities know any better, if classes are taught in Arabic?

If the school were opened in any other place, it might raise fewer alarms.

But Brooklyn — home to New York's largest Muslim population — has produced a number of radicals and terrorists. A popular mosque there has been linked to the first World Trade Center bombing and other acts of terrorism. *snip*

The catalyst behind the movement for such public madrassas is a Muslim immigrant from Yemen. Dhabah Almontaser, a veteran of the New York City school system, pitched the idea to officials. She thinks the government should open grade schools aimed at teaching Arabic, tolerance of Islam and cultural diversity.

And she'll be principal of the first of those schools, dubbed the Khalil Gibran International Academy, in Brooklyn. Set to open in September, it will serve grades 6 to 12 and will eventually include up to 600 students.

She wants to enroll Muslims and Arab immigrants to learn about their heritage, while exposing other students to Arab culture. "I see Arab-American students who want the opportunity to learn Arabic, to read it and write it and have a better understanding of where their ancestors have come from," Almontaser said.

Apparently the thousands of Saudi-backed mosques that already do that in this country aren't good enough for her. The public school is opening in partnership with the Arab-American Family Support Center, a Brooklyn advocacy group for Mideast immigrants.

The nonprofit's Web site says it "addresses the countless social and economic barriers that face the growing population of Arab immigrants." It complains that their "needs" — which apparently include promotion of their culture in public schools — "have been largely neglected."

In the age of Islamic and Arab terror, the last thing we need to do is promote a culture of intolerance and violence in New York City, a prime target for attack. School officials instead should insist that American students be taught American culture — in English.

The American Jihad rolls on unabated. I have a word of advice to our Muslim friends, do not think that our tolerance and forbearance of your plans and schemes is never ending. It has a limit, and you will find at the end of that particular road that pissing off America is a bit like biting down on a piece of tin foil wrapper stuck to a piece of candy.

Reconquista U: Suing Doug McIntyre @ Staying Open!

The Academia Semillas del Pueblo, a racialist reconquista school in LA, partly funded by tax payer dollars is suing Jon McIntyre for slander...

"McIntyre implemented a premeditated scheme to bring down the school at all costs because the school educated predominately ... Latino-indigenous children in a non-Western European format," according to the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, McIntyre began criticizing several aspects of the school last May, including its funding, curriculum, demographics, administrators and educational statistics, all in order to increase his show's ratings.

McIntyre exploited a combination of anti-immigration sentiment and the nation's fear of Islamic terrorists to "create a racist fury against Latino school children, teachers, administrators and staff at the school," according to the lawsuit.

McIntyre's remarks included, "Is this a reconquista school?," "This school is ranked the lowest of the low in the LAUSD and in the state of California" and "Aztecs butchered and ate Spanish invaders. I wonder if they're teaching that at ASDP," according to the lawsuit.

McIntyre also said Aguilar's job was to "keep his school, his madrasa school, open so they can train the next generation of Aztec revolutionaries," according to the lawsuit.

The radio host also used "code words" aimed at a target audience to rile up listeners and create a backlash against the school and Aguilar, the lawsuit stated.

As a result, the school received many threats of violence, including a bomb threat that caused an evacuation of the school and is currently under investigation by the FBI, the lawsuit stated.

As Lonewacko notes, let's recall that the only real violence, an attempt to run down a local reporter who was covering the school, the perpetrator faces some hard time.

However, in the good news department this anti-American tax funded monstrosity, with some of the lowest test scores in city replete with failing schools will be keeping its doors open, whew! I'm relieved!

In a March 13 report on Academia Semillas del Pueblo, the staff cited low test scores, unconventional instruction and potentially conflicting school governance. About two weeks later, facing growing political pressure from former City Councilman Richard Alatorre, former Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg and others, the staff changed course.

Under the five-year renewal conditions, Semillas must meet benchmarks that for three years would place it at least at the median of comparable schools in terms of state and national standards. Data show Semillas ranks lowest among similar schools.

The BNF reports has this to say..."So, we have a separatist group supporting a PUBLIC,TAXPAYER FUNDED school in Los Angeles. This school does not teach the students, as evidenced by the low test scores. So, one can ask, where is the accountability? Why is this man, Mr. Aguilar, and the school allowed to just basically be a tool for him so promote his views (and the views of groups like MECha) at taxpayer expense?

Friends of Dave has charts and sez "I don't think letting this school continue with its curriculum of Spanish, English, Mandarin and Nahuatl-Mexicano and instruction in the Aztec base-20 math system is doing those students any favors. Hopefully, they're going to end up closing this school in a couple years when they're unable meet the benchmarks the district required of them. Those students will just end up getting transferred to other schools where they're going to need extensive remediation to undo this school's work."

Palosverdesblog sez "The school’s absurd multilingual curriculum includes Spanish, English, Mandarin and Nahuatl-Mexicano. But the board bowed to pressure from political stooges Richard Alatorre and Jackie Goldberg and Spanish groups to keep it open, the kids be damned. Until the unions lose their hold on politicians and school board members, the kids have little to no chance."

Puchica was happy "Academia Semillas del Pueblo was there and we got a chance to congratulate them on the renewal of their charter school. VERY COOL. "

Your tax dollars hard at work folks, teaching inner city barrio kids that they don't need to be a part of American life. Yeah, how can that go wrong!

We don't normally make any effort to follow the blog stampede much these days, but this is so shocking as to stampede worthy...

Radar caught up with him (Jon Voight) on his return from a visit to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center with a group of New York City firemen, where he met with soldiers freshly wounded in Iraq. The experience was a powerful one for the 68-year-old, who was eager to discuss the threat of Islamic fundamentalism, critics of the war on terror, and Dick Cheney's bad rap.

You recently visited with wounded troops at Walter Reed. What were your impressions?

I was deeply impressed by them. Most I spoke to were young people, around 20 years old. And they were really very eloquent, very positive, very respectful. You have to be proud of the children we're turning out from looking at this group of people. For me, I would much rather hear from these guys than the people who are presenting the news on television on a daily basis.

Were you able to gauge the mood among the troops--have they lost a sense of mission?

These guys say, well, it's possible to win it. And I'll tell you one thing they said that was very remarkable: the increase in troops that has been recommended by the president, they say anybody who's over there knows the value of backup and we should be behind this. When you're out in that situation in danger, you want to know you've got backup. Only one guy said he wasn't going back to Iraq, and he had been wounded a couple times. But all the other guys wanted to go back. One young woman, a very attractive young woman, had her leg amputated. But she says she's going to find a way to get back into it. She just reupped and she said they would find something for her to do.

Do you think it's possible to win the Iraq War?

Here's what I think: this is a real war, extended beyond the borders of Iraq.

As in the more general war on terror?

The war on terror is real. People would have you believe it's not real. This is not Vietnam. This particular situation is not the same wherein we can walk away and just leave destruction behind us. No, we can't. Anyone who has paid attention to what [Iranian President] Ahmadinejad is saying, what all the mullahs are saying in this country and in England, and in all of the Arab world, this is serious--they're calling for the destruction of America and all democracy and that's what's going on. We could lose this war.

Was the Iraq war part of the war on terror before we got there?

I'm interested in talking about this, but it's been so politicized, it's very disturbing, very dangerous. My view of it is this: they say our president lied to us. Well, he didn't lie to us, everybody else had the information he had, and they voted for that tactic. And the idea of weapons of mass destruction, whether they were in fact removed to other places, to Lebanon, to Syria, that's still in play, we don't know the full answer of where all that stuff went, because they had it, they have the pieces. Now, whether someone else has them or whether we're playing a careful game not to reveal that we know where things are, that's another big aspect of it. The Administration's in a tough spot, because if they say they know where these pieces are, and they can't get at them, they're alerting other energies to know where they are. . . .

We really just want a fair interview, nothing more. We try to talk to people in the public eye who are interesting and ask them about topics our readers care about. I think most people have strong opinions on this subject, and they might want to hear yours, considering who you are.

The question for me is: who are you and where are your sensibilities? If you're part of a left-wing bias and want to turn what I say in favor of someone on your agenda, I would say I don't want to talk about it with you. It's difficult for me ... because I see so many people go in the wrong direction. I see it all the time and it's very, very disturbing. What's being said in so many places in the country is just dangerous.

While you might not hear people say, "I don't support the troops", the country and the media on the whole are increasingly caustic and critical of the president and Iraq. Does that bother you?

It's a tidal wave going in this direction. It's sad for me. The attack on George Bush I find to be reprehensible. From the beginning it was politically motivated, and it's been very successful, the disrespect for our president and for our country and for our government. I have a great regard for our government. We have all sorts of checks and balances that are afforded to us by our constitution. We have a lot of wonderful hardworking people in the government. Once it gets to be partisan, it takes the energy in another direction. There was a big movement to impeach Lincoln during the Civil War, but it is not healthy at this time when we are fighting a very vicious enemy that has made it very clear in their attacks on American embassies and the Twin Towers, and on our forces what they intend.

So I imagine you're a supporter of the Patriot Act?

Yes, I'm a supporter of the Patriot Act. I support protecting us and investigating anyone who indicates they're going to be dangerous to our country. It's one of those things; it depends on which side you're on politically. If we had these things in place we could have anticipated 9/11. We're not interested in investigating someone who's doing something appropriate. We don't have time for that. That's nonsense. I certainly hope we're paying close attention to all those people crossing our borders who might be dangerous to us. We know for sure there are cells in the United States that are ready to erupt. We know that Hezbollah is here; we know there are cells from different terrorist organizations that are here and operational and that there are others waiting too. So listen, it's a serious business. It's wartime, guys. Because we don't have a continuous attack on our shores, we can get complacent. We've got to all be alert now, we've got to be a part of it and be supportive of our troops for sure. . . .

I imagine [VP Dick Cheney's] less gruff with wounded troops than reporters.

It all gets distorted. Rumsfeld was maligned and villainized; he's a hardworking guy, doing the best he can. He's got such a huge responsibility, and if he makes the slightest error, people's lives are at stake. So, you don't think he carries a big weight? He does. Now they've gotten rid of Rumsfeld. Well okay, maybe he didn't have the answer, maybe there was a fresh answer required. But you've got to respect the guys who are out there, working hard as public servants. These guys are good guys. People don't like the war because we don't seem to be winning it. And these people think that if we just walk away everything will be fine, but that's not the case.

Even if you disapprove of the war, it seems pretty clear that simply pulling the troops out might not be the best option.

More than that, the war does not end. When we look around and see the evidence of what is being done and the preparations that are being made to disrupt our country and to destroy it. This growing cancer of fanaticism, it's like 1938â€”it's very, very similar.

To the Third Reich?

Yeah.

Islamic fundamentalism?

Whatever you call it, the things that are being said are very similar. It's a matter of whether we recognize that or go into a cocoon and make our own little drama. Do you know what I'm saying? We're debating things instead of recognizing that the real fundamental aspect is that we're at war with a very vicious, very clever enemy. . . .

I'm contractually obligated to ask those questions, my apologies. Thanks for taking the time to talk international relations with us.

I hope it comes out in a nice way so I can look at it and go, "That's pretty much what we said." It's very hard this stuff. For instance, the issues we talked about with George Bush, I was also against the attacks on Clinton. I thought they distracted from his focus on the presidency. Clinton was a very brilliant guy and can probably handle a lot of things, as George Bush seems to in the face of this attack. He seems to keep his center, as did Clinton, surprisingly. I'm not saying they don't make mistakes, these guys. They do. But to use it just in order to step into a place of power and take advantage, there's something distasteful to me about that. And it can get downright dangerous. We should be very high-minded. And if that doesn't sell magazines, I'm sorry about that. But the portrait of American leadership from the beginning has been people rising above the mud, being able to be strong enough hold themselves against the nonsense.

But there's still a role for journalism in democracy, right?

Of course. You bet. There's a place for good actors in movies too. But you can do damage to a decent movie by going off in the wrong direction too. . . . Journalism can be helpful too, but once it bends to sensationalism and commercialism and becomes agenda-driven, it's not so good.

It's not so much that I agree or disagree, its just, well, I'm speechless!

The MSM: Ignoring Savagery That Don't Fit The Meme!

Always instructive to note what our watchdogs in the media consider newsworthy, and even more so what they don't show you. After wall to wall coverage of the Duke hoax I'll wager you've never heard this story, covered exclusively by college reporter Stefanie Williams...

On the diabolical double murder, Ms. Williams wrote:

"A Google News search of the names Channon Christian or Christopher Newsom would bring up few mainstream sources. Maybe you'll find a couple of blogs and local stories from Knoxville, but you won't find anything from Fox, CNN or MSNBC.

"Trust me when I say this story is more newsworthy than the Natalie Holloway case, the Duke lacrosse scandal and Anna Nicole Smith combined. A young couple, students from the University of Tennessee, were victims of a carjacking and were kidnapped, raped, tortured and eventually murdered by five people. Descriptions of their deaths were so brutal that I had to read them several times to fully process the implications.

"Newsom was kidnapped, raped and beaten. According to reports, his penis was then cut off before he was shot several times and set on fire, all while his girlfriend watched. His body was then dumped alongside train tracks. Christian was kept alive and gang-raped multiple times over a span of four days. Her breast was cut off while she was still alive and her kidnappers sprayed cleaning fluid into her mouth to cleanse it of DNA. Her body was then put into a garbage can.

"This should have been front- page, prime time news. There is speculation that because all five of the arrested kidnappers were black, and the couple white, this story was swept under the rug. Whatever the case, instead of this legitimate news story, I have been spoon-fed pointless stories about Anna Nicole Smith and the innumerable men she slept with.

"It's the unfortunate truth that the media cherry-pick the news on race. Last year, we saw blanket coverage of Sean Bell, who was shot by plainclothes New York City Police Department detectives, where race became such an unnecessary factor. Even worse was the coverage of the Duke lacrosse case, where very obvious lies were upheld for months.

"It goes beyond the media. In both these cases, prominent politicians such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson rose up in racial condemnation. Members of the Duke faculty even took out an ad in Duke's The Chronicle expressing remorse over the alleged 'social disaster' that took place at the lacrosse house. But no one has so much lifted a finger to condemn such an obvious act of hatred like what happened to Christian and Newsom.

"Tragedy strikes people of all colors, and I think it is imperative that those who print the news as well as those who would claim to seek equality and justice acknowledge that. Christian and Newsom died tragic deaths. Their brutal murders deserved to be acknowledged, and the attackers deserved to be known.

"I can guarantee that I'm not the only one who is suspicious over whether the lack of coverage is a concerted effort to brush the story under the rug. Even if it wasn't, it is a huge fumble not to have reported the case. But if my suspicions are correct, it'll only reinforce a sad truth that I've come to learn: The most devastating and important cases are simply passed over when they don't fit the agenda."

The Knoxville case not only does not fit the agenda of The New York Times and the politically correct crowd, it involves a savagery that dwarfs that of the fabricated savagery in the Duke case.

If the couple was black and the persons allegedly responsible for their barbaric deaths were white, would The New York Times have found room for the story?

On the front page!

Ms. Williams says in an email to the Conservative Voice...

"I've been blogging about this case that went on in Knoxville, Tenn...where 2 white kids were kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered by 4 black men and a black woman...the story was ridiculously gruesome, and I was shocked, SHOCKED to find not ONE main stream media outlet picked it up, not even Fox...

I suppose it doesn't fit the meta-narrative, that white folks are the source of all evil, and conversely that it would be racist to mention that black folks commit heinous crimes as well. So long as stories like this aren't covered we can rest assured that our main stream media has a purpose wholly unrelated to the purveying of news.

If the old saw "if it bleeds, it leads" were true, why then do you think this didn't?

I must agree with The Watchdog here, this is pretty much how I see a future North American Union going down. Modern "democratic" governments appear to make decisions and then shoehorn the alleged "will of the people" into the decisions they've already made, the EU being a perfect example....

LONDON: Europe does not need a constitution, Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain said Monday, but should opt for a less ambitious new treaty that would not require a referendum.

After talks with the Dutch prime minister, Jan Peter Balkenende, Blair said the two countries’ positions on how to break the logjam over the European constitution were very close.

“What the Dutch and the British are saying is that it is important we go back to the idea of a conventional treaty, where the idea is to make Europe work more effectively, because we now have 27 countries rather than 15,” Blair said during a news conference with Balkenende, “rather than a treaty with the characteristics of a constitution.”

In 2005, French and Dutch voters rejected a European constitution in referendums, halting reform of the European Union’s decision-making procedures and institutions.

And when it appears clear that a majority of "the people" disagree with the direction the government, in all its mighty goodness and wisdom has decided, what do they do?

Blair suspended plans for a British referendum on the EU constitution after the French and Dutch votes. Given widespread Euro-skepticism in Britain, the government fears it could lose such a vote.

With "democracy" like this who needs tyrants?

I have some more thoughts on this I will write up tomorrow, it's a little late right now and I need some sleep. But the basic gist is simply this: If there are things that you, as a citizen, are not allowed to vote on, can Britain or America for that matter still be considered a democracy?

Illegal immigration is a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about, but hardly the only one. Welfare is another, one of the primary reasons our government is desperate to keep the borders open is to maintain the current welfare system.

To wit...

Washington - President Bush's campaign to solve the problem of illegal immigration is meeting resistance on a new front, as critics fault the Senate reform bill for provisions that a conservative think tank says could allow 103 million immigrants to enter the United States legally in the next 20 years. *snip*

If immigration did take place at such a rate, said Snow, Congress could simply adjust the numeric limits in the law.

And White House aide Joel Kaplan noted that, even if Rector's analysis is accurate, there would be an upside to such a wave of immigration.

“These are people who will be paying taxes and contributing as workers in our society, and we'll also be mitigating some of the drains on Social Security and Medicare because they will be paying in as workers,” Kaplan said.

There are many reasons why the government wants and allows illegal immigration, this is but one, some of the reasons are even comprehensible, but when the people speak the government isn't supposed to plug its ears and holler "WE CAN'T HEAR YOU -- LA LA LA!"

U.S. Embassy In Nepal To Review Visa Process Of Diversity Visa Applicants

I'm really not getting this one...

Kathmandu, Nepal -- The United States embassy in Kathmandu has agreed to review the visa process of those Nepalis who were denied the Diversity Visa (DV).

As U.S. ambassador to Nepal James F. Moriarty said during a meeting with Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan on Monday that the U.S. embassy will review the case of each applicant who was denied the DV, the protestors, who were on a fast-unto-death protest, withdrew their activities.

The Nepalis who were denied the DV were demanding that the U.S. embassy reimburse the loss incurred during the visa processing.

Following 106-day-long relay hunger strikes, they had staged a fast-onto-death protest at the U.S. embassy in Kathmandu.

A press statement issued by Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Nepal government and the U.S. embassy would jointly make an effort to resolve the issue of the protesters.

The statement also urged that the protest programs be called off.

Meanwhile, those denied the DV said the condition of six persons who were on the hunger strike was critical. They urged the Nepali government to immediately take care of those ailing protesters.

Two things occur right off the top, first, no one, NO ONE has a right to immigrate here. If you're denied a visa starve yourself to death I really don't care. This is no way to conduct immigration policy and we are fools to let any of these jackasses in.

This is a terrorist act, they are demanding we let them in or they'll kill themselves. The correct response at that juncture is to wish them much happiness in the next life and assure them that we are all stocked up on the crazy around here.

Second, there should be no reparations for those who apply. We are not a department store, they're not buying a sweater. If there is a processing fee, you shouldn't get it back if you're denied.

We really desperately need to shut down all immigration for a period of at least five years to remind folks that not one single person on this planet has some sort of right to com here, not one!

Oldie -- But Goodie!

From an email that must have circled the globe several times now...

1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, and all government business will be conducted in our language.

2. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote, no matter how long they are here.

3. Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

4. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, nor any other government assistance programs.

5. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

6. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are not allowed to own waterfront property. That property is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

7. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign flag, no political organizing, no "bad-mouthing" our president or his policies. If you do you will be sent home.

8. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail.

Harsh, you say ?

The above laws happen to be the immigration laws of MEXICO!

Diversity Is Strength: And Balkinazation!

There must be a magical stream running through the middle of every institution of higher drinking, and when one partakes of this magical fluid one becomes horribly brain damaged repeating the word "diversity" over and over again like a gibbering loon...

O'Connell also waded into the immigration issue Tuesday [in a talk with the editorial board of the NC Times], saying public schools are required by law to educate any school-aged child in the state, regardless of immigration status.

"Twenty-five years ago there was a federal court decision that said, 'They're here,' " O'Connell said, emphasizing the federal mandates that require the state to provide a free, equal and appropriate public education for all.

Educating every student, regardless of origin, is not only required by law, but it's good for the state, O'Connell said.

"There's a reason we are the sixth- or seventh- largest economy in the world as a state, and that is our diversity," O'Connell said. "I think that's a strength."

So how does one deal with the realities of "diversity?" Why create mini-balkanized fiefdoms of course!

One of the best ways to meet the needs of minority students in cities such as Oakland and Los Angeles where "more than 100 languages are spoken" is to hire minority teachers from the same background, O'Connell said.

"If you want to understand the culture, the traditions, the language, the buying characteristics of those countries, hire people from there --- and they're already here," O'Connell said.

Gosh, wouldn't that be some sort of anti-assimilation?

Fraud found in religious worker visas

The Homeland Security Department plans to begin inspecting religious organizations in an effort to prevent radical groups from using a special government visa program to get terrorists into the country. Officials say they have uncovered rampant fraud in a religious worker visa program that allows thousands of foreigners into the USA each year. "We found that the program had been compromised and the fraud rate was excessively high," said Emilio Gonzalez, head of Citizen and Immigration Services at Homeland Security. Government investigators first uncovered problems with the visa program in 1999, including applicants who were unqualified for the jobs they were hired for. Last year, a fraud-detection unit in the Homeland Security Department found that 33% of the visas investigators examined were granted based on fraudulent information.

But have no fear, when it comes to investigating the 12-30 million illegal aliens queued up for amnesty, it'll be no problemo dude!

OKLAHOMA CITY — An immigration reform bill that evoked strong emotions on both sides passed the Senate Monday on a 41-6 vote.

“This is a good day for Oklahoma, and a good day for America,” said Carol Helm, director of the anti-immigration group called IRON or Immigration Reform for Oklahoma Now.

“We have cities that are not enforcing the rule of law for every citizen. This cannot continue. We feel like there should be no exceptions, and everybody should be required to follow the law regardless of ethnic background or whether you’re a U.S. citizen or not.”

Seems fair enough, right? Everyone, regardless of race is expected to follow the law. Where's the argument exactly? Well, when you don't have an argument why not just throw slurs...

I love when these lunatics say something like this because it gives me an excuse to trundle out my handy-dandy dictionary. Do you know what nationalism is? It certainly has become one of the reflexive insults from the left, so what the hell is it?

One of the endless challenges of this debate is the unwillingness of the other side to come right out and say what they mean. They refuse to do so because they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it would be hateful to a majority of Americans and would damage their cause, so what do they do?

They lie, they obfuscate, they twist meanings of words, this being a good example.

What exactly is scary about "devotion and loyalty to one's own nation; patriotism?"

Or "the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one's own nation, viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations."

Nothing of course unless your goal is this...

Then yes, I think you would find the notion of "devotion and loyalty" to one's nation scary.

There is nothing NATIONALISTIC about wanting to control immigration, there is nothing nationalistic about wanting to stop or crack down on illegal immigration. In fact, there is nothing nationalistic about loving your country.

Don't know about you, but I notice a couple of red flags here. Does the phrase "conflict of interest" mean anything to Mr. Cooke, I wonder? Secondly, how nice that a naturalized citizen who profits from immigration is fighting, and insulting fellow Americans, to continue to wrench our necessary immigration gates off their hinges, how nice.

Is this the object of coming to this country? To force us to accept more and more and more "immigrants," even if we desire less?

I thank Mr. Cooke for opening his ignorant yap and allowing me to take back one more uninformed slur from the lunatic open borders crowd. There is nothing nationalistic or scary about wanting illegal immigration stopped, in fact to even suggest that I have grave doubts about Mr. Cooke's ethical fitness for American citizenship.

Rolling gunfight on Southwest Freeway kills 1

At least one man was killed and several were wounded when rival immigrant-smuggling gangs engaged in a noontime gunbattle that started on the Southwest Freeway and ended on the feeder road, police said.

snip….About noon, the occupants of two trucks — one carrying at least 10 people — exchanged gunfire while heading northbound on the freeway, Elliott said. The vehicles exited at Bissonnet and ran a red light before one truck crashed into an older model Honda Accord that was not part of the chase.

Elliott said the occupants of the two trucks “then proceeded to get out of their vehicles to have a shootout.”

One man collapsed beneath the overpass, on Bissonnet, apparently from gunshot wounds.

“Not only was he shot, but one of the vehicles that fled the scene ran over him,” Elliott said. That man’s condition was unknown.

One pickup fled north on the feeder road and stopped in a strip center parking lot about one block away. The truck had three flat tires, its passenger windows were shot out and at least five bullet holes riddled the exterior; one man inside was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shopping center includes a Chinese restaurant, Chase Bank branch and the Wiz-Kid Childcare Learning Center. Also nearby is the Star Kids Daycare.

The incident caused a traffic backup that lasted for hours, with officials’ closing off the northbound feeder road and diverting traffic onto Bissonnet.

In the shooting’s aftermath, truck parts and articles of clothing, including a shoe, were strewn along the intersection, and the roadway was stained with blood. Crime scene investigators had taped off the area and marked the location of two bullet casings.

Why is this okay?

Why is it I'll be considered a racist for wondering aloud why armed groups of aliens are allowed to stroll into this country and conduct rolling gun battles on major thoroughfares?

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Tuesday criticized U.S. plans to extend barriers along its border with Mexico, saying immigrants should not be treated like criminals.

Two metro Detroit men have been charged with spying for Saddam Hussein's intelligence service, supplying the executed dictator's regime with information about its enemies in the United States, according to federal court documents unsealed Tuesday.

Ghazi Al-Awadi, 78, of Dearborn allegedly told the Iraqi Intelligence Service in 1997 that he killed his son-in-law because the man belonged to an anti-Hussein political party, court documents said.

Najib Shemami, 59, of Sterling Heights allegedly provided Iraqi intelligence with information about Iraqi expatriates who might be called upon to guide U.S. troops during the invasion of Iraq and potential political candidates for the new government. . . .

Metro Detroit Iraqis have long complained they were being spied upon.

Both men are charged with conspiring to act as agents of a foreign government without the approval of the attorney general, and acting as an agent for a foreign government. Shemami also is charged with violating the U.S. International Emergency Powers Act and making false statements to the FBI.

The most serious charge against Shemami, violating the emergency powers act, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The most serious charge against Al-Awadi, acting as a foreign agent, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Scheer freed both men on $10,000 bonds following brief appearances Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. He ordered them to surrender their passports and confined their travel to southeast Michigan.

Both men are U.S. citizens. Shemami is married, has nine children, has lived in the United States for about 40 years and is disabled, Mateo said.

Al-Awadi, who lives alone in an apartment and appeared frail and hard of hearing during Tuesday's court hearing, has been in the United States since 1974, court records said. He has seven children and lives on Social Security.

In 1996, he was paroled from the Michigan Department of Corrections after serving six years of a 5- to 15-year sentence for manslaughter in the stabbing of his son-in-law, Imad Muttar, in Dearborn.

The captured documents said Al-Awadi, code named Ghassan, met with Iraqi officials in 1997, offered to cooperate and said he had killed his son-in-law for belonging to the Al-Da'wa Party in the United States.

The documents said he provided information about a retired Iraqi physician who was planning to flee to the United States and his nephew, a major general in Iraq, who allegedly was put under surveillance as a result of Al-Awadi's information.

When the FBI interviewed him in 2006, he denied working as an Iraqi agent, court documents said, adding that he had gone overseas in 1997, 2001 and 2002 to visit family members.

This isn't an isolated incidence.

The citizens of the town felt they were being overrun with illegal immigrants and attempted to do something about it. They formulated a bill very like the ordinance being effected in Hazleton and that's when the fit hit the shan. Hispanic groups began screaming about pograms and racism and that they were going to take over the town.

Advocates of a crackdown on Carpentersville's illegal immigrants appeared on the verge of a victory Tuesday with the election of three like-minded trustees to the six-member Village Board, according to unofficial results.

Victory would mean enough votes to revive a stalled measure that could make life very difficult for undocumented residents in a village that is 40 percent Hispanic.

With all precincts reporting, incumbents Paul Humpfer and Judy Sigwalt were leading, each with about 18 percent of the vote, and first-time candidate Keith Hinz had 17 percent, defeating Sherry Dobson, next-closest, by less than 1 percentage point, according to unofficial returns.

That means the Illegal Alien Immigration Relief Act could return to the agenda. The proposal would fine landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and suspend licenses of businesses that hire them.

Humpfer said the final form of any measure dealing with undocumented residents depends on a court case in Hazleton, Pa., which passed the nation's first local ordinance meant to drive out illegal immigrants.

"I'm hoping that the judge does rule in favor, of course, but if not, we may do something on our own," he said. "It's really hard to tell." *snip*

Voters who did show up said immigration was at the heart of their decisions. Bart Sitzberger, 40, carried a flier that endorsed the three candidates opposed to illegal immigration.

"I think it needs to be fixed," Sitzberger said. "Carpentersville has a serious problem."

I thought this was interesting, think "shadows." Deep, dark "shadows."

Miguel Vega, a 29-year-old welder, said he chose the slate of Jim Frost, Dobson and Laura Zambrano because the proposed ordinance meant some of his friends at work wouldn't move to Carpentersville.

"It would be bad for the village," he said. "That's the reason I voted for those guys."

Let's follow the logic, shall we?

So if I understand Senor Vega correctly he is saying that the village of Carpentersville would be remiss in not allowing his illegal alien friends to move to the township and enjoy the largess of the American taxpayer as they reside here how? ILLEGALLY!

Dress Deemed 'Too Violent'

Miss Mexico is redesigning her Miss Universe pageant dress - because it is too violent.

The floor-length dress, belted by bullets and covered by sketches of hangings during the Roman Catholic uprising in the 1920s, has outraged Mexicans.

Critics says it glorifies violence in a country where a battle between rival drug gangs has brought a wave of killings and beheadings.

Designers who helped select the dress from among 30 entries said they had wanted something that represented the nation's culture and history, especially since Mexico City is hosting the pageant in May.

"We wanted a dress that made you think of Mexico," said Hector Terrones.

Second, sorry for the light posting today. A major storm front is moving in or out, I'm a little unclear on that point, and it feels like some thing is trying to push it's way out of my skull.

We will quite possibly be migrating to the new site in a day or two, keep your fingers crossed. We'd really like to be on it before we head to Washington.

The Other War!

As our president blathers on endlessly about crispy delicious migrants crossing our southern border, the drug cartels move to take land and control in this country. This is the other war we are currently engaged in, a silent war, a war which only one side has chosen to fight.

Two stories this week point out in stark detail the steps the cartels are taking to consolidate their power in the US...

This story from Vdare notes the almost endless "Lookout points" the cartels maintain inside American borders.

Just a reminder...

The Mexican drug cartels have staked out lookout posts on high ground up to 200 miles into U.S. territory. There are armed foreign nationals on U.S. soil, protecting their drug shipment routes. Presented with photographic evidence of this Karl Rove pooh-poohed it.

Then there's this story...

Cardona has been charged with Garcia's murder, but police don't accuse him of pulling the trigger. They say he was the "hookup," the connection between a high-level drug trafficker in Mexico and a rotating cast of teenagers and young men who act as assassins on the U.S. side of the border.

Law enforcement officials have dubbed Cardona's crew "Zetillas," slang for "Baby Zetas," young enforcers for the Gulf Cartel. They are named after the infamous Zetas, defectors from the Mexican military who sided with smugglers in the drug war.

The profile of the Zetillas in Laredo has startled U.S. law enforcement authorities. They're American kids, born on the north side of the Rio Grande. They range in age from 17 to 24.

At least one, Rosalio Reta Jr., a 17-year-old Houston native, was trained at a Gulf Cartel camp in Mexico, law enforcement sources said. At an age when other kids learn how to tie sailor's knots at Boy Scout camps, he learned how to toss explosives.

Law enforcement sources said Cardona and his accomplices present some of the clearest evidence yet that Mexican drug gangs are recruiting and training U.S.-born hitmen to kill on the north side of the Rio Grande, representing a brutal escalation of drug-related border violence.

Detectives recently obtained an arrest warrant for a Gulf Cartel lieutenant named Miguel Treviño Morales, who is accused of ordering all the murders Cardona is charged with, police said.

Generally, the hitmen received $5,000 to $50,000 for murder, depending on their role and the target, records show.

"The reason they're recruiting youngsters like this is because they're easily manipulated," said Webb County Sheriff Rick Flores (no relation to the judge). ''They swing a carrot ... of money, cars, drugs and women, so it's a very catchy deal."

Now the real question is this: Why is our government at it's highest levels turning a blind eye to this activity? Why do they insist that nothing is going on?

I have a theory. The drug cartels have a goodly portion of the Mexican military in their pocket, if we were to make life miserable enough for the cartels would they declare war on the United States using the Mexican military as their proxy?

Sound far fetched? So do open borders but we have those as well.

A bill to make it easier for lawful Colorado residents to get a driver's license won the Senate's final blessing Thursday, prompting charges by Republicans of a rollback on immigration reform.

House Bill 1313 passed the Senate on a 20-15 party-line vote. It heads back to the House for consideration of a minor amendment.

Democrats argued that the Department of Revenue, which oversees the Division of Motor Vehicles, has made it extremely difficult for some homeless people, senior citizens and children of immigrants born in this country to obtain a driver's license or ID card.

Coloradans now must have a state ID or license to prove lawful presence to receive most government services under an immigration law enacted last summer.

Can we even consider the (D)'s an American party anymore?

A Honest To Goodness Hero!

As Jews worldwide honored on Monday the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust, a 76-year-old survivor sacrificed his life to save his students in Monday's shooting at Virginia Tech College that left 32 dead and over two dozen wounded.

Professor Liviu Librescu, 76, threw himself in front of the shooter, who had attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, "but all the students lived - because of him," Virginia Tech student Asael Arad - also an Israeli - told Army Radio.

Several of Librescu's other students sent e-mails to his wife, Marlena, telling of how he blocked the gunman's way and saved their lives, said the son, Joe.

"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

Liviu Librescu, was respected in his field, his son said.

"His work was his life in a sense," said Joe. "That was a good place for him to practice his research."

Hang on to your hats it's going to be a wild ride!

From Fresno to Sacramento, big tangles of wire and PVC pipes clutter vacant lots in silent subdivisions, waiting for houses to be built — some day. Dozens of “For Sale” signs already dot the lawns across new residential communities. And right next to the ubiquitous billboards from builders are fresh signs offering homeowners help to avoid foreclosure.

But another set of losers is less visible: the immigrant workers, mostly illegal, who rode the construction boom while it lasted and now find jobs on building sites few and far between.

Offering more than $10 an hour as well as new skills and a shot at upward mobility, construction provided many illegal immigrants the best job they ever had, a step up from the backbreaking work reserved for those toiling without legal authorization, which in the Central Valley mostly meant pruning and picking in fruit and vegetable fields.

The growing presence of illegal immigrants in home building, mostly working for small labor contractors, might help explain why government statistics have recorded only a small decline in construction employment, despite the collapse in residential investment.

Lesson #1: Illegal immigrants skew gub'mint figures.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center, a research organization in Washington, immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries account for about one in five construction workers. Those who arrived since 2000 — who are likely to be unlawfully in the United States because they had virtually no way of immigrating legally — account for an estimated 7 percent of the construction work force.

They were mostly pulled in by the building frenzy of the first half of the decade. According to the analysis by the Pew Hispanic Center, based on census data, Hispanic immigrants took 60 percent of the million new construction jobs created from 2004 to 2006. Those recently arrived took nearly half.

While there are no equivalent statistics at the state or local level, a glance at a construction crew anywhere in the valley confirms the overwhelming immigrant share. “There are only Mexicans,” said Adrián L., an illegal immigrant from Oaxaca who does interior work on homes here. “Now not even the supervisors are American.”

Lesson #2: Illegal immigrants turn good jobs bad. Also, when 99% of a crew speaks Spanish?

There was his other nephew, Roberto, who used to tear roofs down for $15 an hour, and Manuel S., who used to spray stucco on houses in the San Francisco Bay Area. Antonio R. lost a $14-an-hour job cutting wood last October. Chuy R., who got a job wiring homes immediately after arriving in the United States in May 2006, lost it at the end of the year.

Lesson #3: Illegal immigrants erode safety standards.

The immigrants agree. “There are too many people for too little field work,” José Manuel J. complained. “People are scattering up to Oregon and further north because there is little work here.”

Lesson #4: There never was or will be a labor shortage, only a shortage of ethical businesses and consumers willing to pay a fair wage or price for labor and services.

One of the core positions of the lunatic open borders crowd, our president, the bad smell in comments, Jackson, etc, is that illegal aliens are here to do "Jobs Americans won't do."

Am I to understand that Americans won't take construction jobs paying $25-35 dollars an hour? What this shows is that instead of Americans doing well and being fairly rewarded for their skills and labor they were shunted aside for cheaper labor at all points.

The irony is that this article, though written to be sympathetic to our cheerful invaders actually undermines the case for our needing them. In fact, if the New York Times had any clue how markets actually work they wouldn't have printed this piece as it is a withering indictment of the dire effects of illegal immigration in so many different ways.

So let's all rejoice in the New York Times firm policy to exclusively hire naught but cranks and communists as it makes our job so much easier!

I just had a feeling this story would send a little business our way...

Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.

The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said.

Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus’ security response, the source said.

The exits to the buildings where the shootings occurred were chained by the shooter, the source said.

Though it appears to have entered the 'memory hole' let's recall that "experts" assured us this morning that this had nothing to do with terrorism.

I'm not saying this does have anything to do with terrorism, it occurred to me I should make my point a little more clear. All I'm saying is there are several elements here that could, could appear like the work of a terrorist, chaining the door, multiple weapons, possibly pre-testing security. Again, not saying it is, simply that it could be and I would love our nations law enforcement agencies to stop assuring us something isn't terrorism when they cannot possibly know that to be true.

The task force's eventual objectives on American campuses include the following, according to the website: permanent Muslim prayer spaces, ritual washing facilities, separate food and housing for Muslim students, separate hours at athletic facilities for Muslim women, paid imams or religious counselors, and campus observance of Muslim holidays. The task force is already hailing "pioneering" successes. At Syracuse University in New York, for example, "Eid al Fitr is now an official university holiday," says an article featured on the website. "The entire university campus shuts down to mark the end of Ramadan." At Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Mich., "halal" food -- ritually slaughtered and permissible under Islamic law -- is marked by green stickers in the cafeteria and "staff are well-trained in handling practices."

At Georgetown University, Muslim women can live apart in housing that enables them to "sleep in an Islamic setting," as the website puts it. According to a student at the time the policy was adopted, the university housing office initially opposed the idea, on grounds that all freshman should have the experience of "living in dorms and dealing with different kinds of people." That might sound appealing, Muslim students told a reporter in an article featured on the website. But in their view, the reporter wrote, "learning to live with 'different kinds of people' " actually "causes more harm than good" for Muslims, because it requires them to live in an environment that "distracts them from their desire to become better Muslims, and even draw[s] weaker Muslims away from Islam."

The lesson in socializing and socialism was given to about a dozen students from the selective Beacon School on the Upper West Side, which for years has organized extravagant overseas trips with complementary semester-long classes.

Some past destinations include France, Spain, South Africa, Venezuela, Mexico and, according to the school Web site, Cuba in 2004 and 2005.

The principal, Ruth Lacey, insisted she did not approve the April 1-10 jaunt, in which students and teachers said the group was briefly detained on their return by American customs officials in The Bahamas and now faces fines.

In a telephone interview, Lacey initially claimed to have no knowledge of the trip but later recalled having denied approval for it. She said the teacher, Nathan Turner, then took it upon himself to arrange the excursion.

Turner, 35, a popular teacher whose classroom walls, students said, are adorned with posters of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, declined to comment.

To even broach the topic of inner city crime is almost a social taboo, rather like discussing the bride’s old boyfriends at a wedding reception. But the figures, as they say, do not lie, and we do no one a service by trying to ignore them. Here in Los Angeles, for example, there were 481 murders investigated by the LAPD in 2006, but almost half of them occurred among the 18 percent of the city’s population living in South and South-Central L.A. These areas are almost exclusively black and Latino.

Looking at the numbers more closely, blacks are about 11 percent of the city’s population, but in 2006 they were 36 percent of its murder victims and 40 percent of its known murder suspects. Latinos make up 46 percent of the city’s total population and were about half of its murder victims and suspects. Whites are about 29 percent of the population in Los Angeles but last year were only 4 percent of the city’s murder victims and 2 percent of its known murder suspects.

Similarly with the black-white gap on criminality. Here’s a way to quantify the gap. Take a white male aged 18-64 at random from the white population of the U.S. What is the probability that he is in jail? According to the 2000 Census, it is slightly better than one percent — 0.0107, to be precise. For a black male, the number is much higher — 0.0790. An average black American adult male is therefore 7.4 times more likely to be in jail than his white counterpart. Why?

The Social Science model offers poverty and racism as answers, with the racism of policemen and judges especially salient. As with the education gap, these explanations have an exhausted appearance. They were certainly plausible 40 years ago, when there were few black judges and policemen. Now entire cities — judges, policemen, and all — are run by black Americans. Those cities turn out to have the worst black-crime statistics of all! That 7.4 ratio I gave above was for the nation as a whole. In Washington, D.C., the ratio is 29.3. (The statistical legwork here was done by Human Rights Watch. A Folk-Biological interpretation of the numbers was offered by the statistician who uses the pseudonym “La Griffe du Lion,” here.)

I draw no conclusions beyond this, we do a disservice by ever telling 'kind lies' that obscure the truth. A fact, prima facie, cannot be racist.

WILLMAR, MINN. — A mobile-home park that is home to hundreds of Hispanics resembled a ghost town Friday, the fourth day of a government hunt for illegal immigrants that has shaken this western Minnesota city’s Spanish-speaking community.

There were no children — or adults — out in the yards or on outdoor decks. The streets were deserted. And the curtains were closed in most mobile homes, with the owners’ cars parked next to them.

“Nobody goes out of their houses now,” said Cecilia Gonzales. She, her husband and children were the only people venturing outside for a walk Friday afternoon. “And people aren’t driving their cars. A lot of people aren’t going to work. Everyone is scared.”

Immigration attorneys estimate that about 50 people have been arrested in the Willmar area since Tuesday, when immigration agents began knocking on doors in search of illegal immigrants with felony records.

Since then, immigrants have been hypervigilant for the vans with darkened windows used by immigration agents. Almost like a game of cat and mouse, immigrants report the latest van sightings to a local immigrant advocate, just as immigration officials are keeping tabs on them.

After a flurry of arrests earlier in the week, Friday brought a strange calm. Maria Diaz, a community organizer who has been fielding hundreds of calls on the arrests, said she was informed about just three arrests Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would not confirm any numbers, saying it’s “an ongoing operation.”

Meanwhile, some immigrants were going into hiding until the threat of deportation ended, advocates said.

THERE’S nothing like a change of scenery to gain a fresh perspective on an issue. Take illegal immigration.

I spent five days in eastern Kansas (Johnson County) and Kansas City, Mo., last week and guess what? There are no illegal immigrants hanging around the Home Depot stores. The people who bus and wait tables? Local residents, college students. Gardeners and domestic workers? Legal citizens. *snip*

They work hard and some may start their own businesses and soon, the economy adjusts, even prospers. There is also a price America pays in terms of health care and hospital emergency rooms, law enforcement and education costs. But that’s for another column. *snip*

Upper middle class and upper class residents in L.A. say prices of car washes, restaurant meals, day care and domestic help will rise if illegal immigration is curbed. Again, they’ve become conditioned to inexpensive labor. I say, these same jobs can be filled - eventually - but at legal wage by legal residents.

I had a friend my age who grew up in the Central Valley. He was white and poor. He and his brothers would pick almonds in the summer. Now, these jobs are usually given to illegal immigrants.

National Guard to begin reducing border force

SAN YSIDRO -- As planning begins to reduce the number of National Guard troops along the border with Mexico, less than 1,000 of 6,000 new U.S. Border Patrol agents that the Bush administration wants in place by the end of next year have been hired.

As of March 17, the Border Patrol has only been able to hire and train 593 new agents or 9 percent of the administration's goal, according to Javier Rios, a Border Patrol spokesman in Washington.

Screening new agents and a lengthy training process have resulted in the relatively small number of new hires. By the end of 2008, the administration wants a Border Patrol force of about 18,000 agents, up from the 12,000 in place when the president ordered the troops to the border last June.

Guard commanders in California and other states assigned to the border duty are starting to put together plans to reduce the troop presence.

There were 1,389 members of the California Guard's air and ground units on the border last week, a number that probably will fall to between 1,000 and 1,100 by the fall, said Lt. Col. Jon Siepmann, a Guard spokesman in Sacramento.

"This has always been a temporary mission," he said, adding that the assignment officially ends in December 2008. "Our end strength (later this year) will be based on what the Border Patrol says it needs."

Governors across the nation, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, initially resisted the Guard assignment, saying it came at a time when Guard units and their families were stressed by frequent deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

As the border mission has gone on, those assignments haven't waned, and the Defense Department last week said that up to 12,000 Guard troops from four states other than California could be headed to Iraq early in 2008.

The border assignment has been a success, according to the administration and the Border Patrol, which say the number of people trying to enter the U.S. illegally has fallen dramatically.

How "dramatically?" Prepare to laugh...

Along the 60-mile San Diego border sector, apprehensions fell by more than 6,500 people in a 12-month period ending April 1 with 67,926 arrests compared with 74,463 in the previous 12-month period, according to Border Patrol statistics.

Note, this "dramatic" figure is for arrests, why is that relevant?

Guidelines issued by U.S. attorneys in Texas showed that most illegal immigrants crossing into the state had to be arrested at least six times before federal authorities would prosecute them, according to an internal Justice Department memo.

Hmmm, so how many people tried to cross and how many times? That would seem to be the real question which this statistic neatly sidesteps.

Shocker: Suspected Illegal Alien Forced To Take Shower!

A 23-year-old Canadian tourist traveling through Georgia was recently detained overnight in jail for minor offences due to a new state immigration law.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Saturday that Ottawa native Cheryl Kuehn was detained last weekend for more than 11 hours for minor traffic violations as officials checked her immigration status.

Officials at Glynn County Jail said they merely detained the Canadian tourist to post a cash bond and check her immigration statue as per the new SB 529 immigration law.

Yet with the graduate student also being forced to strip naked and shower after being detained last Saturday, many immigration activists are up in arms.

"Canada is our biggest trading partner," said Jerry Gonzalez, executive director of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials. "It's a disgrace that this woman had to go through that. I think the governor owes us an explanation."

The newspaper said with the law not scheduled to go into effect until July, an internal investigation has been launched into the alleged mistreatment of Kuehn.

So being forced to take a shower is mistreatment? I shudder to think of the consequences of a bubble bath!

Tensions are high among opponents of a controversial Farmers Branch ordinance aimed at illegal immigrants, and the rifts are widening as people on the same side of the issue accuse one another of wrongdoing.

The development, some observers say, could hurt chances of defeating the ordinance and getting City Council candidates who share their view elected May 12.

One of the most vocal opponents of the measure that would ban apartments from renting to most illegal immigrants has parted ways with the League of United Latin American Citizens over the group's tactics.

And one Dallas activist is accusing some in the movement of violating election laws and of hypocrisy for not supporting the only Hispanic candidate running for City Council. They in turn said he is manipulating the issue and the media for personal gain.

"People on the same side of an issue sometimes get angrier at each other for not agreeing how to fight than they get at their opponents," said Christopher McGuire, one of the leaders of Uniting Farmers Branch, a grassroots movement launched last fall to fight Ordinance 2903. "And also, I think people are feeling pretty stressed, because it looks like we're going to lose pretty badly. My prediction is we're going to lose 2-1."

Awwww. A Fisking we will go! If I'd had more time, I'd have made haggis out of Yackson's bile. While I normally eschew heavy linking in my responses, this uncouth antagonist calls for digging into the archives. To set the record straight, I didn't change the subject. I did some educating. Yackson lacked the knowledge to discern the difference between an ad hominem and a reasoned point of view. Obviously he needed schooling. So I schooled him.

Yackson didn't read the report before his first thought droppings in the original comments thread either. Yup. I didn't catch the link at first. Yackson insists this makes me an ignoramus...an ignoramus that schooled him about ad hominems and the connection between his quickness to take overblown offense and his race-hustling. What's that say about his intellect?

The misquote was my bad. I copied text the from the three web pages into NoteTabPro to print them for reading and for easy copying and formatting. Somehow parts of the Washington Times article got placed at the end of the Heritage Executive Summary, probably by hot-key goof. At least I'll admit when I'm off track.

But so what about it? Despite my attribution being to the wrong web page, the point still stands that there is a forthcoming additional study from Heritage that will cover the immigrant component of costs, which by definition will include illegal aliens.

But the use of this report by anti-immigration fanatics has taken a turn beyond what I predicted.

Um...I guess Yackson doesn't know or understand that the Heritage Foundation is quasi-Conservative. While many of those at a think tank called "The Heritage Foundation" ironically practice "economism" over "heritage" when it comes to immigration reform, by and large, the foundation still demands tough sanctions first and believes that illegal aliens are harmful, not beneficial. Us "anti-immigration fanatics," are unimpressed by people who lack the critical thinking skills to understand that the "nation of immigrants" fallacy is not prescriptive, it was a silly catch-phrase in a poem that won a contest. For ascertaining prescriptive ideals, traditionalists turn to the founding fathers' writings.

Let's dispense with the absurdity of the "noble illegal alien" posturing inherent in Yackson's writing. It has been well-known for quite some time that a large percentage of illegal aliens do, in fact, receive benefits(PDF) for which they are not eligible. Often they gain benefits by "fraud." We call it "stealing." Why is it so hard for mass-immigration and illegal alien cheerleaders to figure out that people who have no qualms about breaking our immigration law in order to get stuff from our economy are naturally less averse than citizens to breaking other laws?

Also, immigrant households are not identical to native households. Many immigrants are young, single men although some bring their families and others start families here, but many immigrants are young and single, rent a room and pose a negligible cost to society.

This is no more than a weak and disingenuous misdirect. Yackson is asking us to focus solely on the people within a cohort that he thinks cost us less and to ignore the people that he thinks cost us more. Reality doesn't work that way.

Most people who grew up in the US have already cost the government thousands due to their 12 years of education so when an adult immigrant arrives, he's already $50 - $100,000 ahead because we didn't have to pay for an education.

I'll set aside the absurd and convoluted contention that current schoolchidren don't pay for their grade school education, even though their parents' property taxes fund schools. Instead, I'll get to the heart of the matter: Most of us who grew up in the US have at least some ancestors who sacrificed blood, toil, sweat and often their very lives for the sake of Americans' liberty. Along the way our forebears paid for the all of the infrastructure that allows legal US citizens the privilege of partaking in the benefits of America's legacy. For legal citizens, this means that even if someone's ancestors' contributions were more latter-day or comparatively insignificant to the norm, they rightfully share. And they should. What did Yackson's coveted illegal aliens' ancestors do to mitigate or amortize the infrastructure and ongoing costs they present to us now and in the future? Nothing! Zip! Nada! Zilch! But they did make a mockery of our sovereignty while breaking our laws, and Yacksonians contend that we all should feel lucky to be taken advantage of by these interlopers.

My God. I feel as though I'm a counselor in some bizarre intellectual Special Olympics! "Run like the wind, Yackson! No, wait, first base is the other way!"

Also immigrants are naturally selected. Healthy people of working age are more likely to come to the US.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ad infinitum.

Yep, Yackson is my bestest schooled Special Olympian!

Raised on rice and beans and hard work (not HoHos, Popeyes chicken and Oprah), these people are on average healthier and use less health care. Another difference is that immigrants that are low-skilled are low-skilled because their countries did not provide them a no-cost-to-them K-12 education.

This riff is so absurd, I don't know where to begin.

As a long-time medical lobbyist, health system marketer and hospital consultant, I know factually that illegal aliens are not "healthier," especially from a cost perspective. They seek care later, too often after normally manageable conditions have become acute emergencies. They use our ERs as primary care centers. They are responsible for such painful cost-shifting in rural areas that hospitals are often rendered unable to afford to pay for advances in technologies or specialist salaries that are vital to saving American citizen's lives. Every day at least one American citizen dies or is left with an unnecessary permanent disability because he or she arrives for critical care at a hospital in which its accounting department was cost-shift-forced to red-line out the very medical innovation that would save their life or save the quality of their life. I doubt this will get this through Yackson's thick skull, but thousands of American men, women and children who would have lived are likely dead and thousand of others likely crippled today thanks to the burden illegal aliens have placed upon our healthcare system and infrastructure for the last 35 years.

Most of our illegal aliens are low-skilled not because their home nations lacked educational systems, but because their cultures fail to place priority upon education. This carries forward through the generations. Some argue this problem may be related to innate intelligence averages for the cultural cohorts; I have yet to find a single convincing counter argument. There is no pretty way to phrase this: The intellectual characteristics of most of our current illegal alien residents portend a future in which their descendants will remain poorly educated because they will be less smart - about one standard deviation less - than average American kids, and because they will reside within Diasporas that place little value on education.

Meanwhile most high school drop outs in the US are people who were unable to drag themselves out of bed in the morning to attend class at the local high school and therefore are not the prime candidates for employment. People like that also have trouble keeping a steady job and are therefore more likely to use welfare programs.

Yackson really, really doesn't like Americans, particularly those who are unskilled. No wonder he wants them replaced. Drawing out his latent hate for Americans I sensed in his early comments has been a fascinating and enlightening exercise.

In fact it has been reported that the Heritage Foundation plans to release a separate analysis focused solely on low-skilled immigrant households in the next few weeks.

Even the Heritage Foundation knows that the study is not applicable to immigrants.

Whoo. Another doozy! Yackson insists that a representative of the National Council for LaRaza's comments about the Heritage study are informative of the intent of its contents. I've never shot this many fish in the same barrel. Yee ha! Is there a catch limit?

The Heritage Foundation estimated that each low-skilled household results in a lifetime cost of $1.1 million (assuming a 50 year adult lifespan for heads of household). I predicted that anti-immigrant fanatics would cite this figure despite [sic] the above. I was right.

Yackson hangs his hat on there being some sort of bizarre superhuman trait within our low-skilled illegal alien population that renders them exempt from being counted as a part of the cost we all bear related to all of America's low-skilled residents. Further, he has unmasked his loathing and contempt for Americans who aren't educated; he strongly prefers criminal interlopers to citizens who did not finish high school, whatever the reason. Predictably, Yackson writes as if the Heritage Foundation study exists in a vacuum and that there are no other sources of data available. For instance, the National Academy of Sciences reported that the net lifetime cost to the American taxpayer of an adult Mexican immigrant is $55,200. Multiply that by the RAND Corp estimate of 20 million illegal aliens in the US and you get 1.4 Trillion dollars.

Nope. No major impact on society here. Move along. Don't worry about your kids. War is peace. Freedom is slavery.

Yackson, through his own exposition, is beginning to present himself as a perfect-storm example of the sort of person: 1)whose mis-indoctrination about history, tradition and sovereignty poses myriad onerous threats to our children and our children's children; and, 2)while he has yet to express it specifically, whose loathing for the comparatively few historical "evils" perpetrated by Americans throughout history completely negates the incalculable and phenomenal benefits the founding and existence of America has meant to the causes of liberty, innovation, and goodwill throughout the world.

I'm glad these moonbat gnats are so attracted by Jake's fine work. It serves us all well to know the various ugly shades, malformed dispositions and laughable ignorance of our enemies. It will be interesting to see how the newest little troll here responds.

Chip Rogers defends immigration enforcement

MARIETTA - State Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) said Friday that his Immigration Compliance Act, which takes effect July 1, is not new law but reinforces federal laws already on the books.

“I find it somewhat puzzling that Congress seems to be caught up in immigration reform,” he said, adding that Congress has yet to enforce its existing immigration laws.

“It is not simply a federal issue,” Rogers told a crowd gathered for Kennesaw State University’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Suburban Conference. “The states are the ones that have to deal with this problem.”

Rogers said his immigration act, passed during the 2006 legislative session, tackles immigration enforcement at every level, from employment policies to law enforcement and state and federal benefits eligibility.

“This impacts (immigration enforcement) through every area,” he said. “No other state has passed the comprehensive bill like we did.”

Rogers said the act mandates that state agencies verify employees’ immigration status through an Internet-based Basic Pilot Program, as well as verification of employers with state contracts.

People who apply for state and federal benefits like welfare also will be checked using the Systematic Alienation Verification Entitlement program to determine their citizenship status.

Rogers said Georgia State Patrol officers will be certified in immigration law training and people accused of felonies and drunken driving would be checked for deportation alerts.

“You need to come here legally,” Rogers said.

Dr. Ernesto Silva of the University Department of Foreign Languages said he came to the United States 20 years ago from Peru.

Now a legal U.S. citizen, Silva said he is concerned that enforcement of this magnitude would breed resentment among the up-and-coming generation of Latinos.

He said through increased law enforcement, parents could be deported from their children who are legal, naturalized American citizens, and foster anger among young Latinos affected, making it less likely for them to assimilate and embrace American culture.

“Immigrants are being criminalized,” (ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS -- ed, sheesh, this guys a professor?) he said. “They’re afraid. This creates another issue.”

Silva said there is too much focus on enforcement and deportation and not enough on helping illegal aliens become legal citizens.

“Most illegal immigrants come to work,” he said. “I can see the fear in Latinos right now. They’re being too harsh on a group of people who are quite vulnerable.”

Rogers said the laws are not new or enhanced mandates, simply laws that have been on the federal books for some time that need to be enforced before more unused laws are passed.

He added the immigration act is not targeting Latinos or Hispanics, but illegal immigration.

“I don’t care what color you are or religion you are,” he said. “None of that matters.”

It is people like this professor, by his sheer unwillingness to see beyond race, who make this more and more likely...

But unyielding resistance from the newer immigrant groups, from business interests that exploited them, and from the traditionalists who feared any increase in the powers of government, blocked all action. The problem was allowed to fester and grow-until a wave of national hysteria brought into being a system that was extravagantly protective and demeaningly racist. Hispanic leaders, chambers of commerce, and civil libertarians should take note."

I have a suggestion to make, namely, that the primary election be abolished altogether and that the nomination simply be awarded to the candidate who has raised the most money.

I would love to see smart people get together and try to figure out ways to decrease the amount of money required to run for any elected office. By setting the financial bar so very high you exclude a lot of folks who would do an excellent job and of course you make the race solely about pleasing the moneyed elites who already wield a disproportionate influence.

In this time of almost unlimited internet access there must be a way to harness these new technologies to provide more access for less money.

As Mr. Schorr says of his small proposal...

But awarding the election to the biggest bankroll would certainly give us the best president money can buy.

Fight for the Irish?

As the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform (ILIR) gears up to take their campaign across the Atlantic with a meeting set for this Saturday, April 14, at Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin, family and friends of the undocumented are putting the work in place to ensure that Jury’s will have a full house.

Tracey Bradley from Donegal has two undocumented sisters living in the U.S. and several cousins, and she has put her heart and soul into informing her local community about the importance of the meeting in Dublin.

Bradley, 32 hails from Inch Island in Co. Donegal. She, her husband Declan and their daughter Joanne, 3, like so many other families, have had to make the 3,000 mile trek to the U.S. to visit her siblings because Joanne aunties can’t visit her.

“We’ve visited them twice since Joanne was born but they’ve never been to our new home in Buncrana,” said Bradley sadly.

So let me get this straight. This woman believes that her family is being unfairly kept apart because we have immigration laws. Her poor sisters -- who live in New York and Boston, and wish to remain anonymous for very obvious reasons -- are being persecuted for breaking those laws.

The sisters did risk one trip back to Ireland when their father died in 2002, but...

Since 2002 the sisters have been forced to catch up on their daily lives via the telephone and the Bradley’s infrequent trips. She describes not being able to have her sisters come freely back as a “jail sentence.”

Well, it's a "jail" your sisters are free to walk out of at any time, since they have "sentenced" themselves -- and you -- to "doing time" in it. End your "incarceration" -- I beg you!

Bradley feels that the Irish are doing the right thing in the U.S., and she sees them wanting to declare their presence here as a positive move. “My sisters have all grown to love and know the U.S. as their home now,” she says.

Doing the right thing? Working to undermine the laws that are the foundation of this great country? Bitching about having to suffer the consequences of their actions -- which they're actually not, since they're STILL HERE?

It was this desperation and the pleas from her family here in the U.S. that got Bradley, a restaurant manager, involved in the “fight for the Irish,” as she calls it.

Bradley not only feels the meeting is imperative for her sisters here in the U.S., but she also says she thinks it’s important for those in Ireland who aspire to work in the U.S. in the future.

It sounds like Bradley wants an open door to America for anyone who wants to come. Especially if they're Irish.

But you know what? Bradley isn't a U.S. citizen. Neither are her two lawbreaking sisters. Nor are the millions of other illegal aliens in this country who have somehow come to the erroneous conclusion that they should be rewarded for breaking our laws rather than punished.

I, however, am a U.S. citizen.

Anyone who has so little respect for this country that they're comfortable not only breaking our laws, but also bringing a severely misguided sense of entitlement with them when they come, can get and stay the hell out.

Don't need ya. Don't want ya.

Jackson (Yaksun) accuses KD of an ad hominem attack because KD compared him to Al Sharpton. Now it is possible for that to be an ad hominem, but it's not in this case.

In case y'all aren't clear on what an ad hominem attack is, it's when you avoid responding to a person's argument by insulting them personally, i.e.

Tom: I think it would be better if taxes were cut, it stimulates the economy and creates more jobs and revenue.

Phil: You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny!

This is a silly example but it is an ad hominem attack, a term I often find misused and abused in blog comment sections, and if you know anything about me it's that I'm all about the proper usage of words.

TALLAHASSEE -- State Rep. Don Brown thought he was being "cute." His fellow Republicans in the Florida House had another word for it: racist.

Brown, a DeFuniak Springs Republican, apologized Thursday for sending an e-mail to his colleagues that noted the April 17 federal income tax deadline.

"Don't forget to pay your taxes -- 12-million illegal aliens are depending on you!" Brown wrote in a message to his colleagues on a state-issued email account.

Cue the racial supremacist whiners!

What Brown meant as a joke wasn't interpreted that way. The strongest criticism came from his fellow Republicans -- Hispanics with large immigrant constituencies in South Florida.

The Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus issued a statement saying it "took serious offense."

"It was wrong. It was offensive," said House Speaker Marco Rubio, R-Miami, the son of Cuban immigrants.

Rep. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, said the Brown e-mail showed "an ignorance as to the founding of both this state and our country. It deeply saddens me that this mentality still exists in what we consider to be a forward-looking government."

Rep. Juan-Carlos Planas, R-Miami, said Brown's remark was "not just racist on its face, but it's not true."

"It's that type of mentality that is prohibiting passage of a reasonable compromise immigration bill in Washington," Planas said. "As long as that festers, we're losing what the American spirit was all about."

The worst part?

A contrite Brown expressed regret. In a follow-up email, he wrote: "Please accept my sincerest apology."

The floor at Riverside Arena appeared to be divided right down the middle at Thursday night's Immigration Forum, with several anti- and pro-immigration activists present to hear the panel discussion.

Austin resident Sister Ruth Snyder, who spent 21 years in Peru doing mission work, said she came to the forum with hopes that Austin would learn the truth about immigration and immigrants. 'There are so many myths,' she said. 'Hopefully, Austin is ready to learn the facts.'

Snyder said she believes people can gain more respect for other cultures by living within other cultures.

Got the picture? Now, toward the end of the piece we find this quote...

Miguel Garate, international student adviser for Riverland, said Austin was a 'dead town' when he moved to the city 10 years ago. Now, because of the diversity, he feels the town has become a better place to live.

'This is my town, my home,' he said. 'If we work together and reach for

A 17-Year Nightmare of Identity Theft Finally Results in Criminal Charges

LOS ANGELES, April 12 — For 17 years, David B. Dahlstrom, a locksmith in Salt Lake City, has not been entirely himself. That is because, the authorities here say, Yorck A. Rogge, a German immigrant in Los Angeles, has been him, too.

The real Mr. Dahlstrom, 45, had lived a relatively uneventful life with his wife until Mr. Rogge entered the picture, prosecutors said.

Mr. Rogge, 41, who was first arrested using Mr. Dahlstrom’s name in 1990, has committed a string of crimes under it, the authorities said, and is in a state prison for violating parole after being charged with stealing a car and assaulting his girlfriend last year. Prosecutors in Los Angeles want to keep him there.

The city attorney’s office filed charges on Wednesday against Mr. Rogge, accusing him of 81 counts of identity theft and fraud. *snip*

From 1990 until last year, Mr. Rogge was convicted of a series of crimes using Mr. Dahlstrom’s identity. Vandalism in 1994. Burglary in 1995. Leaving an accident scene in 2001. Making a bomb threat in 2004.

A victimless crime?

The case illustrates the tangled trail identity theft can leave, said Rocky Delgadillo, the city attorney, although he called this one “extraordinary” both for the duration of the fraud and the number of crimes traced to Mr. Rogge under his assumed name.

As a result, Mr. Delgadillo said, Mr. Dahlstrom has had difficulty getting credit and at one point was detained by police officers serving an arrest warrant in his name.

“This certainly demonstrates the kind of nightmare identity theft victims can suffer,” said Mr. Delgadillo, whose office last year established a special unit of four prosecutors to investigate identity theft, a problem federal authorities say has grown considerably in the past decade.

Mr. Dahlstrom said the ordeal had left him feeling “violated and confused.”

“Me and my wife have been stressed,” he added, “my credit has gone downhill. I cannot believe it happened to me.”

Mr. Dahlstrom told the authorities that in 1985 he lost his wallet in Utah. The wallet contained his birth certificate, Social Security card and driver’s license. Prosecutors said Mr. Rogge used Mr. Dahlstrom’s identity in 1990, when he was arrested and convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in Los Angeles. *Snip*

Mr. Dahlstrom, meanwhile, first became aware his identity had been stolen when he was denied a credit card in 1997 because of what a creditor called “fraudulent activity.” In 1998, he received an insurance claim for an accident he was not involved in and another claim a few years after that.

When he reported the trouble to the authorities in Utah they referred him to the police in Los Angeles, where the incidents occurred. The Los Angeles police, he said, cautioned him that unless he had the true name of a suspect little could be done.

Last year, the police in Utah told him there was a warrant for his arrest, and Mr. Dahlstrom called the Los Angeles city attorney’s office pleading for help.

Ultimately, there were some lucky breaks.

Mr. Rogge’s girlfriend, in a pique of anger, divulged his true name to a parole officer last year, who called Mr. Dahlstrom, who called the city attorney’s office, starting a deeper investigation. Investigators determined the fingerprints of the two Mr. Dahlstroms did not match.

So the only reason an American citizen didn't go to jail was the scumbag criminal's gun moll gave him up?

A steady stream of customers flowed into Grace Lopez-Williams' office on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. They were taxpayers, looking for help to file by this year's April 17 deadline.

Many of them were also illegal immigrants

Why pay now? "To get ready for reform if it comes down," Lopez-Williams said.

Congress is expected to debate immigration reform this spring, and most proposals would allow some illegal immigrants who are already here to work toward legal status.

Filing tax returns could be a way to prove residency, show that a person was working and demonstrate the "good moral character" likely to be requirements under an amnesty plan or other immigration reform, Lopez-Williams said.

... "They want to be in compliance when the time comes," said the Puerto-Rican native who has been operating an accounting and tax preparation business since 1998.

Now that there's a benefit to them? They do the right thing!

I posted earlier on a fracas at the University of Texas San Antonio, where a group of (cough) Liberals (cough) harangued and harassed Chris Simcox of the Minutemen.

After posting I decided to track down the gal quoted in the article, she was one on the organizers and a member of the Young Conservatives of Texas. She just responded. I'd asked if she could shed any light on the actual affiliation of the (cough) Liberals (cough) who to quote the ridiculous news article 'descended' on the event. She sez...

I can't confirm that the groups are socialist/anarchist, however, I have seen some of their members in the past with anti-capitalist propaganda at UTSA. They also sport Che Guevara shirts more often than not.

Certainly indicative if not proof. She also included a round up of links, the comments under this post at the blog revolution were simply amazing, if not jaw bruising.

So I'm bopping along minding my own business when a fellow Youtube user suggests I watch this video. It's one of the growing "truther" movies purporting to EXPOSE how 9-11 was an inside job.

I have only one question: have we somehow managed to raise a generation completely innocent of the scientific method?

For the uninitiated it's called "comparing unlike objects or actions." To compare a fairly light (or low mass) race car slamming into the incredibly heavy (high mass) and anchored to the ground wall to a many tonned airplane (high mass) slamming through glass (If you have to ask I'll slap you!)?

In fact, if you watch the video it actually contradicts the point the maker was attempting, in his cannabis influenced way, to make. If you know how the WTC was built you will already know that the main supports for the building were located in the center of the building. So when the plane passes easily through the exterior shell and doesn't appear to explode until it hits the middle of the building?

Yeah! That's what you expect if the main supports for the building where in the middle of the freaking building! The exterior of the building consisted of glass and the pancake flooring, that's it, so the idea of a plane weighing hundreds of tons passing easily through is not only not evidence of government conspiracy it also makes perfect sense.

Tell you what it does prove though, there are a lot of really stupid people running around out there, and they can vote!

Suspect in fatal crash is illegal immigrant with 4 DUIs

ANTIOCH -- An undocumented immigrant arrested in the traffic death of an Antioch father of five was impaired by drugs and alcohol, had four prior DUI convictions and may be charged with murder, according to the Highway Patrol and the Solano County Sheriff's Office.

Jose Pena, 26, was booked into the Solano County Jail after he was released from John Muir Medical Center, a week after the March 31 death of Kent Boone, 33, in a head-on crash on Highway 12 in Solano County.

Pena, who the CHP alleged had two pounds of crystal methamphetamine in the Ford Expedition he was driving, crossed a double-yellow line at an estimated 90 mph to pass another vehicle when he hit Boone's Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Pena was impaired by alcohol and drugs when the crash occurred, had four prior drunken-driving convictions under an alias and a narcotics conviction, the CHP said. Officers searched his Fairfield residence and confiscated more drugs and cash.

Boone was en route to work as a pipe fitter, and his survivors were devastated. Neighbors on Rock Court in Antioch visit and cook daily for his children. Boone had two children from a previous marriage, 10-year-old twins Hope and Autumn, as did his widow Regina Sorisio -- Brannon, 12, and Mackenzie, 11. Together they had a 5-year-old son, Jacob.

At least people are starting to get it...

But his survivors also are angry about the other driver involved.

"He needs to be in prison, there's no way they're going to be able to deport him and keep him out of our country," Sorisio said.

"My reaction is, I can't believe this guy is not already in jail," said Sorisio's mother, Robin Sorisio. "Why wasn't he in jail before? Why do they continue to let these guys out, and they continue to make trouble for everyone? And of course, we cannot replace Kent." *snip*

Anti immigrant politics in the United States become popular any time there are economic pressures on the native born. This trend will continue until the Republican party contains none but those who believe the Christian End of Days myth and believe that they need only instigate a nuclear conflagration in the Middle East to make their prophecy come true. Color George Bush afflicted by this particular brand of madness.

I said violent and armed and I do mean just like those people in Waco, only on a scale a thousand times larger and funded with our tax dollars. Take a look at Blackwater, with their fundamentalist Christian founder, a 7,000 acre private military base in South Carolina, and a hundred thousand mercenaries available for use anywhere in the world. Many, many Christian Nationalist would work with such an organization to affect a coup in the United States, should The Decider decide that he knows better than the American people.

How this all plays out, should it come to pass, is anyone's guess. Will we see a Christian Nationalist state arise in the old Confederate States' geographic territory? Will the Southwest convulse and cleave to Mexico taking half a dozen states in the process and wiping out California's economy, the eighth largest in the world? Will the breakaway Republic of Vermont finally free itself? Will they establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Texas?

So? When I suggest these things are true I'm a crazy bigoty-bigot with xenophobolicious tendencies and really great haircut? And when they do it's what? Speaking truthiness to power?

What's the diff exactly other than the fact that I simply refuse to worship at the Church Of White Guilttm?

It has long been held that immigration has the power to split the Republican party into its disparate elements, I think they're overlooking something important...

Dems Face Immigration Hurdle, Too

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) has a long answer when it comes to immigration -- 'We've gotta do five things simultaneously,' she said in Burlington during a swing through Iowa last week. But for Iowa Democrats, there are two big applause lines.

In the down-and-out river town of Waterloo, the crowd cheered Clinton when she promised to crack down on businesses that employ illegal immigrants. But the loudest, quickest applause came for another line: 'You're going to have to learn English.'

Immigration isn't at the top of any Democratic presidential candidate's agenda, and conventional wisdom holds that navigating the issue is crucial only for Republicans in next January's caucuses.

But a closer look shows that concern about immigration seems to burn almost as brightly for liberal Iowa caucus-goers as it does for the Republicans and conservatives with whom it is traditionally identified. And Democrats are also being forced to address the emotional edge of an issue that has become part of the lives of voters in even the most homogenous parts of the country. Whether any Democrat will attempt to gain an advantage by tapping into these currents within the party, or whether they'll remain unified around proposals to offer illegal immigrants access to citizenship, remains an open question.

'Chicanos from Mexico are a presence in a lot of moderately sized and smaller towns in Iowa and other parts of the Midwest,' said Steven Schier, a professor of political science at Carleton College in Minnesota. 'That gives it (the immigration issue) an immediacy that it didn't have 10 or 20 years ago.'

A University of Iowa poll of 1,290 registered Iowa voters, set to be released this week, found that about 40 percent of Democrats identified immigration as a 'very important' issue, with nearly every voter surveyed saying it was either very or somewhat important. About 60 percent of Republicans called the issue 'very important.'

'It's a surprising number,' pollster Dave Redlawsk said of the Democratic total. 'The impression out there is that this is more of a Republican issue, and there isn't a Democrat who is running on a hard-core immigration position. But what the poll suggests is that there's broad interest in what's going on with undocumented immigrants.'

I wanted to pull the next bit out and give it a little context...

The poll has another surprise, however. Redlawsk found that a majority of both Iowa's Democrats and Republicans -- given the explicit option in the poll -- would prefer to see what they called 'undocumented' immigrants pay fines and learn English but stay in the country. Only about one in five Democrats, and a quarter of Republicans, favored mass deportation.

No, the poll doesn't offer a surprise, I'll assume since no link is offered what it offers is the standard false choice between "mass deportations" and "amnesty." The truth is whenever folks are offered the opportunity to vote on good old fashioned enforcement they choose that in a landslide every single time.

Now back to the really big shoe...

All three candidates -- like politicians of both parties who support the McCain-Kennedy immigration overhaul -- take a similar approach, stressing tough-sounding measures, such as increasing border security and cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants, to balance their support for ultimately giving most illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.

I continue to assert that this issue, more than any other issue in the political pantheon has the power to fundamentally realign American politics in both parties. This is the one true bi-partisan issue.

As I wrote previously: The new American resistance cannot be a thing of parties or old alliances. New, fresh thinking and blood is needed, untainted by previous feuds and disagreements, if we are to maintain the ability to hand down to our children the very country we are charged with preserving.

I'm sitting here typing with one hand as I wait on hold with Sony trying to find out whether the microphone damaged by that lunatic assistant pastor is covered under warranty.

I've been on hold five times, sent to three different departments. I could hear one of the conversations they had about me while I was on hold.

Is it just me, or does the "customer service baby talk" drive anyone else batty?

Truly one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. The worst part to me is the sheer unwillingness to take any responsibility or initiative to deal with the problem. Now, instead of my walking away extolling how great Sony is, at the moment, as much as I like my camera and the Sony Mic (other than the fact that Sony forces you to buy their products!). This second I can't stand them and wish we had a different product!
